(HOLMDEL, NJ) -- The Holmdel Theatre Company presents a staged reading of The Sty of the Blind Pig by Phillip Hayes Dean on Monday, February 23, 2026. Doors open at 6:30pm featuring soul-stirring music by Grammy-nominated guitarist and singer Junior Mack. The reading begins at 7:00pm.
Set in 1950s Chicago, The Sty of the Blind Pig captures a Black family's fragile balance as an unexpected visitor stirs buried hopes and long-held wounds. A 1971 New York Drama Desk winner, the play is intimate, lyrical, and quietly explosive, revealing how faith, desire, and change collide in one small apartment.
This reading is produced in partnership with the New Jersey Creative Arts Collaborative (NJCAC) in honor of the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month. This special event celebrates a landmark moment in cultural history while spotlighting a resonant work of African American theatre.
Directed by Diane L. Parker, the cast includes Darlene C. Ellis (Weedy Warren), Serena Marie Smith (Alberta Warren), Arthur Gregory Pugh (Doc), Di Shawn J. Gandy (Blind Jordan), Lawrence Allen (Reverend Goodlow), and Gwen Ricks-Spencer (Narration/Stage Directions).
There is a suggested donation of $10. The theater is located at 36 Crawfords Corner Road in Holmdel, New Jersey.
