(ALLENTOWN, NJ) -- Are you looking for the ultimate Halloween experience? The Allentown Village Initiative (TAVI) will host a screening of the 1925 silent film classic "The Phantom of the Opera" with live organ accompaniment on Saturday, October 25, 2025 in the Allentown Methodist Church. A century after its original release, the mastery of the Phantom – played by Lon Chaney – is still the gold standard for Halloween fare. The event begins at 7:00pm. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person.
Rottentomatoes.com gives it a 90% certified fresh rating. "Aspiring young opera singer Christine Daaé discovers that she has a mysterious admirer intent on helping her become a lead performer. This masked presence is Erik, also known as the Phantom, a horribly disfigured recluse who lives underneath the Paris Opera House. When the Phantom takes Christine prisoner and demands her devotion and affection, her suitor, Vicomte Raoul de Chagny, sets out to rescue her."
For the complete classic film experience, the movie will be accompanied live on the church organ by Michael McCormick, principal organist at St. James R.C. Church in Pennington and an Upper Freehold, NJ resident. McCormick has served as organist at local parishes since 1983 and is a member of the Central Jersey Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Attendees are encouraged to come in costume and join in a Halloween party in the church hall after the movie. Allentown Methodist Church is located at 23 Church Street in Allentown, New Jersey.
The evening is part of TAVI's "Allentown Arts" series, made possible in part by a grant from Monmouth Arts, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners.
