The 2025 New York Emmy Awards nominations were announced in July, and the acclaimed arts and culture series State of the Arts, which has covered the arts in New Jersey since 1981, received four. The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at a live, in-person gala at the New York Marriott Marquis in Manhattan.
State of the Arts is a cornerstone program of NJ PBS, and is co-produced by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and Stockton University, in cooperation with PCK Media. The series also airs on WNET (New York) and ALL ARTS - WNET’s arts and culture broadcasting and streaming hub.
“I applaud the State Arts Council, Stockton University, and PCK Media on this well-deserved honor,” said Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way, who oversees the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in her role as Secretary of State. “For over 40 years, State of the Arts has chronicled the cultural life of New Jersey for the public broadcasting audience and beyond. It’s a beautiful thing to bring the arts into people’s homes - poetry festivals, original theatrical works, amazing concerts, visits to artists’ studios, and so much more. I’m proud that we are able to support such enriching and inspiring programming for all New Jerseyans.”
Long-time State of the Arts Series Producer Susan Wallner remarked: “New York is the largest and most competitive media market in the country, and receiving four nominations in the New York Emmy competition is a great honor for State of the Arts. Not only is it a mark of recognition from our peers in the ever-changing world of broadcast and streaming media, it is a vote of respect for the world-class artistic talent found in New Jersey. I’m privileged to work with a talented group of producers, as well as the endlessly creative artists of our state!”
“The State Arts Council is proud to shine a light on all of the amazing New Jersey artists and arts organizations featured in these nominated pieces,” said Allison Tratner, Council Executive Director. “State of the Arts is a unique show created by an experienced, award-winning, and passionate group of arts and culture journalists. It is a powerful way to share the story of the New Jersey arts community with the world.”

"This truly superb show deserves all the accolades and recognition it gets. Stockton University is proud to co-produce State of the Arts, and to be a part of this storytelling, which is so important to the cultural life of our state.”
The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, created in 1966, is a division of the NJ Department of State and a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. The Council was established to encourage and foster public interest in the arts; enlarge public and private resources devoted to the arts; promote freedom of expression in the arts; and facilitate the inclusion of art in every public building in New Jersey. The Council believes the arts are central to every element we value most in a modern society including: human understanding; cultural and civic pride; strong communities; excellent schools; lifelong learning; creative expression; and economic opportunity.
