(NUTLEY, NJ) -- On Sunday, July 27, 2025, Nutley Little Theatre presents a reading of Scrambled Eggs by Jessica Marie Fisher. Directed by Arthur Carlson, the reading is free and open to the public. The reading begins at 2:00pm.
The play takes place in 1949, and Whitney feels isolated. James thinks Whitney is unwell. Doris is a homosexual...so is Maggie. Maggie is pregnant and anxious. Frank doesn’t know how to help her. Richard has PTSD from the war and drinks too much. Helen doesn’t know how to help him either. Doctor Walter Freeman II claims that he has a solution.
Following the reading there will be a talk back with the playwright, Jessica Marie Fisher.
While this event is FREE, donations are gratefully accepted! There is a donation box in the back of the house but they also accept donations via Venmo and PayPal at their website. Nutley Little Theatre is located at 47 Erie Place in Nutley, New Jersey.
There is no assigned seating. Doors will open a half hour before show time. Please note, the theater is not handicap accessible. No outside food or drink will be permitted inside the theater.
Parking: There is a small parking lot with a few spots right outside the theater. Our traffic volunteers will hold those spots open for elderly, or pregnant patrons. Otherwise, there is parking on either side of Brookfield Ave or in the parking lot at the school across the street. Parking is not permitted on Erie Place.
For over fifteen years, NLT’s Readers’ Theatre has presented free staged readings to showcase a variety of classic and contemporary works. Originally developed by local director Penny Potenz Winship, each play is carefully curated to offer actors a creative challenge and audiences a unique experience.
They often choose works that are cutting-edge, unusual, or unlikely to be produced as a mainstage show at the Nutley Little Theatre. This may come down to topic, producibility, prohibitive performance rights, unpublished material, etc.––but one guarantee remains: Reader’s Theatre gives back to their community for their support and patronage of regular mainstage productions.
Moving forward, they aim to increase their outreach and cater to the diverse community of northern New Jersey. They pledge to provide a space for voices that have historically been underrepresented on the stage for too long. Their Readers’ Theatre presentations will focus on presenting impactful works that explore, navigate, and elevate the diversity around us.
