(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The all-new Princeton Festival production of Giacomo Puccini's masterful opera Tosca takes center stage at Morven Museum & Garden June 13, 15, and 17. Between these performances, on Saturday, June 14, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra pairs up with American Repertory Ballet for An Evening of Pas de deux. All performances take place in the grand pavilion on the grounds of Morven Museum & Garden.

Stage Director Eve Summer and Scenic Designer Ryan McGettigan offer a fresh version of Puccini’s Tosca, recreating the 24-hour, politically unstable period of Rome on June 17, 1825–Tosca Day!–bringing a touch of film noir lighting and shadow to otherwise Roman architectural elements. Attired in period-adjacent clothing by Costume Designer Marie Miller, the passion-filled characters of Tosca, her lover Cavaradossi, and the villainous Scarpia, merge paths resulting in tension-filled meetings fraught with danger. The libretto was written by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, who also collaborated on La bohème and Madama Butterfly. The Festival production of Tosca is sung in Italian with English titles.

Edward T. Cone Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts all three performances which star Toni Marie Palmertree as the ill-fated opera singer Tosca, Victor Starsky as Tosca's luckless lover, Cavaradossi, and Luis Ledesma as the treacherous chief of police, Scarpia. Other characters are portrayed by Festival veterans Eric Delagrange (Cesare Angelotti) and Nicholas Nestorak (Spoletta), as well as Stefano de Peppo (A Sacristan) and Jacob Hanes (Sciarrone). Students from Princeton Middle School join area singers to form the Princeton Festival Opera Chorus.

Opera lovers and singers of all ages can check out these free events presented by the Princeton Festival Guild:
