originally published: 03/28/2025

(MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- The Middletown Arts Center presents a screening of the documentary film, Frida Kahlo by Exhibition on Screen, on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at 2:00pm. Take a journey through the life of a true global icon, discover her art, and uncover the truth behind her often turbulent life. Delving deeper than any film has done before, Frida Kahlo engages with world-renowned Kahlo experts and makes use of the latest technology to take an in-depth look at key works throughout her career.

Who was Frida Kahlo? Everyone knows her, but who was the woman behind the bright colors, the big brows, and the floral crowns?

Using letters Kahlo wrote as a guide, this definitive film reveals her deepest emotions and unlocks the secrets and symbolism contained within her art. Exhibition on Screen’s trademark combination of interviews, commentary and a detailed exploration of her art delivers a treasure trove of color and a feast of vibrancy. This personal and intimate film offers privileged access to her works, and highlights the source of her feverish creativity, her resilience, and her unmatched lust for life, politics, men and women.

Tickets are $15 for the public and $10 for MAC Members. Tickets are available for purchase online, by phone at 732.706.4100 or at the MAC Box Office. The Middletown Arts Center is located at 36 Church Street in Middletown, New Jersey (next to the Middletown train station). 2022 represented a milestone for Exhibition on Screen as the award-winning company celebrated a decade of bringing art films to cinemas across the world. It was then in 2023 that it broke box office records with Vermeer: The Greatest Exhibition, which became the highest-grossing art documentary in UK history. Since its launch, Exhibition on Screen has released over 35 films and sold more than six million cinema seats across the globe – from London to Los Angeles, Berlin to Brisbane.
