“Forbidden Voodoo,” the latest single and video from Anthony Krizan’s forthcoming album, is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.

Lyric videos have a tendency to fall a little flat, but that’s not the case with Anthony Krizan’s “Forbidden Voodoo,” the Makin Waves Song of the Week.

The literally smokin’ hot clip produced by multimedia talent Jay Petsko (Nektar) matches the Allman Brothers-like blues scorch of Anthony’s exceptional tune.

“‘Forbidden Voodoo’ started with the riff and the music, then I had melody ideas and co-wrote this song with Larry McCoy so we both wrote the lyrics together,” Anthony said. “Larry had the word voodoo in mind, and I came up with the word forbidden so that’s how we wrote the lyric concept.

“I think Jay did a great job with the video!” he continued. “The pictures are very descriptive of what the lyric are saying, and I think the lyrics are really cool so I like the concept of a lyric video so people can see the lyrics. There are some very cool images, and I have an extended (guitar) outro, which I think came out really cool. (Keyboardist) Rob Clores put some strings on the outro. I was going for a retro ‘70s ultra jam, like Marvin Gaye did on some of his records and Buddy Guy’s ‘Sweet Tea’ record.

The funky R&B nugget “Strawberry Wine” was Anthony’s previous single to what next year is expected to be a 10- to 13-song follow-up to his acclaimed 2016 debut album, “Dust & Bone.”

Anthony’s many songwriting and/or production credits  include Lenny Kravitz, John Waite, the theme song to the ABC-TV show “Spin City,” and Spin Doctors with whom he also played guitar on several albums and tours. Like “Dust & Bone,” the forthcoming album was produced and recorded by Anthony at his Sonic Boom Studios in Raritan Borough. On “Forbidden Voodoo,” he not only plays guitar but also drums and bass. 

Joining him and Rob in the Anthony Krizan Band are bassist Muddy Shews and drummer John Hummel, who also plays in Matt O’Ree Band. Cosmic Jerry keyboardist Billy Siegel sometimes sits in. See them live Dec. 15 at Lucy’s Garage in Pleasantville, N.Y.
