Gallery Bergen presents "Arrivals/Departures – East80West"

(PARAMUS, NJ) -- Gallery Bergen presents the exhibition, Arrivals/Departures – East80West, curated by Bay Area artist/curator Cece Carpio and Gallery Bergen Director Tim Blunk, from February 8 - April 12, 2024. Seven contemporary artists from both the West and East Coasts – connected by US Interstate Route 80 – examine the bicoastal realities of new immigrants to the United States.

Montclair Art Museum presents "Century: 100 Years of Black Art at MAM"

(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- The Montclair Art Museum (MAM) presents its landmark exhibition, Century: 100 Years of Black Art at MAM from February 9 to June 23, 2024. With over 70 works in various mediums by 59 ground breaking artists, Century is the largest and most comprehensive show of its kind at MAM, underscoring a longtime commitment since the 1940s to the curation and appreciation of artworks by Black artists. Curated by Adrienne L. Childs and nico w.okoro, Century is complemented by a fully illustrated catalogue featuring multiple essays that offer insightful explorations of the rich historical and cultural context of Black art. The exhibition has been coordinated at MAM by Chief Curator Gail Stavitsky.

Montclair Art Museum presents "Family, Community, Belonging: Works from the Collection"

(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- The Montclair Art Museum is thrilled to present its latest exhibition, Family, Community, Belonging: Works from the Collection. This unique collection-based exhibition delves into the ever-evolving notions of family and community, and explores themes of belonging, diversity, and inclusion through a diverse array of artworks. The exhibition opens on February 9, 2024, and will be on display at the museum until January 2026.

(SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) and Seton Hall University are Offering Companion Art Exhibits Through Spring — "Contemporary African Spirituality in Art." The exhibit at Seton Hall University's Walsh Gallery speaks to what cultural practices have been mixed, juxtaposed and collided with ideas, themes, materiality and techniques that are both African and contemporary by African and African diaspora artists.

New Noyes Galleries Exhibit in Hammonton Focuses on Planet's Ecological Future

(HAMMONTON, NJ) -- Four artists concerned about the ecological future of the country and the planet have pooled their artwork together for a new exhibit at the Noyes Galleries at Stockton University's Kramer Hall. The group exhibit, titled "Our House is on Fire," features the work of Princeton's Judy Brodsky and three artists from Pennsylvania — Linda Dubin Garfield, of Bala Cynwyd; Pamela Tudor, of Philadelphia; and Elsa Wachs, of Wynnewood. The free exhibit will run from February 14 to May 17.

ArtYard presents works by Charlotte Schulz, Alvaro Catalán de Ocón, Katie House and Cindy Gosselin

(FRENCHTOWN, NJ) -- ArtYard presents two new solo exhibitions — Charlotte Schulz: A Constellation of Small Events and Alvaro Catalán de Ocón: Plasticity and the opening of I Just Want to Know, featuring works by Katie House and Cindy Gosselin, the third collaborative exhibition between ArtYard and Studio Route 29, as well as Aqualumina Workshop, a makerspace dedicated to the creation of aquatic costumes and objects for the Aqualumina Festival on May 18.

Princeton University Library presents largest U.S. retrospective of the work of Ulises Carrión to date

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton University Library (PUL) presents "Ulises Carrión: Bookworks and Beyond," the spring exhibition in the Ellen and Leonard Milberg Gallery at Firestone Library. Curated by Sal Hamerman, Metadata Librarian for Special Collections at PUL, and Javier Rivero Ramos, a recent Ph.D graduate from the Department of Art & Archaeology, who is now Assistant Curator at Art Bridges Foundation in Arkansas, the exhibition opens on February 21, 2024 and runs through June 13, 2024.

The Newark Museum of Art presents The Story of Newark Fashion: Atelier to Runway

(NEWARK, NJ) -- The Newark Museum of Art (NMOA) presents The Story of Newark Fashion: Atelier to Runway from February 22 through June 2. In development since 2021, this is the Museum's first large-scale exhibition dedicated to contemporary American fashion. Bringing together loans from prestigious public and private collections, The Story of Newark Fashion features the work of 11 fashion designers with Newark connections.

Visual Arts Center of New Jersey Opens Exhibitions Celebrating Gallery Aferro

(SUMMIT, NJ) -- This February, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey (VACNJ) will present exhibitions that celebrate the Newark-based arts organization Gallery Aferro, which recently closed its doors after 20 years. Funded by visionary artists and changemakers Evonne M. Davis and Emma Wilcox, Gallery Aferro was a platform for the exchange of ideas in service of advancing human dignity and beauty, with a focus on visual arts as the vehicle. Opening on February 23, the Art Center's first-floor galleries will showcase a range of media by past recipients of the Lynn and John Kearney and Sustainable Arts Fellowships.
