Westminster Conservatory recital to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month on Saturday

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Westminster Conservatory of Music will present “Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month” on Saturday, May 13 at 7:30pm. The concert will feature nine Conservatory faculty members of AAPI heritage, as they perform music that represents the nations of their backgrounds. The concert will take place in Bristol Chapel (101 Walnut Lane) in Princeton.

This is the last event of the season in the Westminster Conservatory Faculty Recital Series and will feature faculty members clarinetist Dr. Sung-Won Hwang (Korea); violinists Chika Mimura (Japan) and Dr. Hyun Soo Lim (Korea); and pianists Jenny Chiou (Taiwan), Ikumi Hiraiwa (Japan), Eunju Kim (Korea), Mary Elizabeth Latorre (Philippines), Fang-Ting Liu (Taiwan) and Dr. Hendry Wijaya (Indonesia). They will be joined by their Conservatory colleague Dr. Timothy Urban, vocalist and performer, on the hulusi (gourd flute).

The evening will include compositions by Mochtar Embut and Jaya Suprana (Indonesia); Young Ja Lee and Jinsil Lee (Korea); Joe Hisaishi and Yoshihiro Kawamura (Japan); Manoling Francisco and Francisco Santiago (Philippines); Huang Yong Xi and Huang You Di (China); Amber Yiu-Hsuan Liao (Taiwan); and Lin Sheng-Shih (Hong Kong).

Established in 1970, Westminster Conservatory is the community music school of Rider University. Welcoming young musicians of all ages, skill levels, instrument preferences and economic backgrounds, Westminster Conservatory provides focused one-on-one lessons. In addition, the Conservatory offers a wide range of classes and performing ensembles to engage every student, from the beginner to young maestros, regardless of age. Westminster Conservatory of Music is a nationally recognized institution, maintaining active membership in the National Guild for Community Arts Education.
