(NEWARK, NJ) -- United Community Corporation’s Harvest Fest on October 26th did more than lift the spirits of Newark families with live entertainment and treats. It also served hundreds of community members with vital resources.
At UCC’s Harvest Fest, which was held Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Phillip’s Park in Newark’s North Ward, 500 coats, 400 bags of groceries, 250 meals, and 250 costumes were given to the community for free. Additionally, over 25 organizations joined the event to share resources and treats for local families to celebrate and connect with one another as community events are often the place residents can find a link to a variety of needed services.
“Providing groceries, resources and fun activities for over 500 residents emphasized the overwhelming needs in the community and the importance of agencies working together to provide services with dignity,” UCC Executive Director Craig Mainor said.
The event came to the North Ward with a goal to provide vital community resources as the cold weather months approach. It featured live music entertainment by DJ Alvarez, a fresh produce distribution, free costumes for children donated by Father Gulya, and winter coats donated by Helpsy. UCC also hosted a Trunk-or-Treat at the festival where free treats were handed out to youth, as well as face painting, a petting zoo, and health screenings.
Wednesday’s event would have not been possible without key support from the City of Newark and Amerigroup.
“The City of Newark is proud to partner with UCC for its Harvest Fest in order to bring the community together this fall season,” Newark Deputy Mayor of Community Engagement Jacqueline Quiles said.
“Amerigroup is committed to improving lives and health, and we are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the UCC and the City of Newark to provide needed resources and services to the communities we serve,” Amerigroup Director of Member Experience and Growth Anya Nawrocky said.
While UCC wrapped up another successful Harvest Fest, the agency has more outreach events on the way for the holiday season. UCC will host a “Friendsgiving” Wellness Fair in Newark on Monday, November 21 that will include a free turkey, fresh produce, and mental health resources to community members.
