The Newton Theatre presents Peter Rowan and Sam Grisman Project

Peter Rowan and Sam Grisman Project

(NEWTON, NJ) -- Peter Rowan and Sam Grisman Project will perform at The Newton Theatre on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 8:00pm. Tickets range from $52.50 - $80.

The music that Sam Grisman heard his father David Grisman and Jerry Garcia make in the early ’90s in the house Sam grew up in (the simply titled “Jerry Garcia & David Grisman,” as just one example) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded, it also triggers his oldest and fondest musical memories. Sam is inspired by how much camaraderie, love, and joy is simply oozing out of his father and his best friend, but also how deeply they get underneath their favorite songs (originals, covers, and traditional/old-time tunes) and how expertly that material was curated.

Sam's aim in starting Sam Grisman Project is to build a container where he and his friends can showcase their genuine love and appreciation for the legacy of Dawg and Jerry’s music, the impact it has made on their own individual musical voices, and also to showcase the original music that their squad has to offer the world.

Now, in a team-up with longtime family friend Peter Rowan, Sam and the band will be bringing the music of legendary bluegrass outfit Old and in the Way to the stage for select performances in 2025 and beyond!

Tickets range from $52.50 - $80 and are available for purchase online starting Friday, April 18 at 10:00am. The Newton Theatre is located at 234 Spring Street in Newton, New Jersey.

Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites...7/3/25

"Absolutely! It is a tribute to him but it is not a tribute band," began Bon Scott "79th Birthday Tribute" organizer John Jackson as he discussed this year's event, past history and more. "What we're trying to do is model this off like what the "Experience Hendrix" folks do with their "Red House" tour where they've got several guitar players that come and do various Jimi Hendrix songs but there is not one person who is being Jimi Hendrix. So, last year we had 16, this year we have about a dozen different singers who are all going to do one or two songs; their favorites. So, it's more of a celebration and that's why we do it on his birthday rather than like a tribute gig the way people have come to know them. Hopefully we'll do him justice, it will be hot, it will be loud but it will be fun, I promise."
