(WAYNE, NJ) -- Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) demonstrated exceptional talent and creativity at the New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC) County Vocational-Technical School Cook-Off Challenge, securing multiple awards and earning a total of $2,750 in scholarships. Held during the annual NJAC conference, the competition brought together vocational schools from across the state to showcase their culinary skills before a panel of professional chefs, business leaders, and public officials.
Passaic County Commissioner Director Pat Lepore shared, “This achievement underscores the dedication of our instructors and students alike. Their hard work and innovation brought well-earned recognition to Passaic County, and we look forward to what they will accomplish next.”
PCTI students took home the Silver Medal People's Choice Award, along with a $750 scholarship, for their flavorful and inventive dish: Chicken & Cheese Empanadas with Chicharron Tostones.
In addition to impressing attendees, the team captured the attention of culinary experts and judges, earning two more awards: a Gold Medal for Station Display (NJAC Judges Awards) and a Silver Medal for Food Presentation (Professional Chefs Awards).
These accolades reflect not only the students' culinary skills, but also their ability to deliver presentation and flavor at a professional level.
“They trained with passion, collaborated with focus, and delivered a menu that truly honored their heritage and creativity. I couldn’t be prouder, not only of our culinary students, but also of the outstanding work by our construction students whose craftsmanship contributed to the Gold Medal-winning station display,” said Mark Cacace, Supervisor for the School of Culinary Arts and School of Construction Technology programs at PCTI.
