(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- In honor of Juneteenth, the Ocean County Library will present a live program by Michelle Washington Wilson, “When the Cavalry Came to Call: A Juneteenth Presentation.” It will take place at the Toms River Branch on Wednesday, June 15 at 6:00pm, and at the Little Egg Harbor Branch on Tuesday, June 21 at 7:00pm.
Juneteenth National Independence Day is a federal holiday that commemorates emancipation and celebrates African American culture. The program will feature stories and poems dedicated to the celebration of African American Emancipation.
Ms. Wilson has devoted more than 30 years to writing, performing and story-telling throughout North America and the Caribbean, sharing tales from around the world. She is featured in two books, Legendary Locals of the Pine Barrens of New Jersey and Small Towns, Black Lives. Both can be found in the Ocean County Library system.
