The Makin Waves Award-winning local supergroup Never The Name featuring members of Bryan Hansen Band, Matt Cook & The Heard, The Wag, and The Extensions, had a fantastic 2025 with the release of their seven-song debut album, “Millennial Boomer Consumer.” A cross between the mellow grooves of Earth, Wind & Fire and the hard funk of Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Millennial Boomer Consumer” spawned three singles with accompanying music videos: “Quasimodo’s Love Note,” “Consequences” and “Dirty.”

But perhaps the album’s best track is the closing contemplation of “Destiny,” the Makin Waves Song of the Week.

As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Destiny” also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Jan. 9 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The PenguinMixcloud and RadioJersey.net.

“‘Destiny’ is a unique song amongst the others, as the song is about a ‘john’ falling in love with his favorite prostitute and wanting to take her away from that life to be in a relationship with him,” said Will Blakey, the band’s founding singer-songwriter-bassist.

Will also serves as the band’s engineer. He recorded the album at 907 Studios in Plainfield with guitarist Tom Briant drummer Joshua Van Ness and keyboardist Lisa LoVell. Will also mixed and mastered “Millennial Boomer Consumer,” which can be heard live Jan. 29 at Crossroads in Garwood.

In the meantime, enjoy “Millennial Boomer Consumer” on Apple Music and YouTube.
