(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Jersey City Theater Center and Motherfather Productions present a raw and imaginative exploration of Crimes of the Heart - Beth Henley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play about the family drama of the Magrath sisters. Performances take place across two weekends from March 21-30, 2025.
Set in 70s Mississippi, a time rife with racism, bursting with the energy of the women’s liberation movement, and galvanized by the war overseas and the resulting cultural backlash—we dive into this piece to live among its small-town characters and the beliefs that have led them each to this moment of reckoning. In doing so, perhaps we may find an aspect of ourselves that has led us to where we are as Americans in the present moment.
Jersey City Theater Center and Motherfather Productions proudly present a co-production of Crimes of the Heart, directed by Albert Rudnitsky. The cast features Sabina Friedman-Seitz as Meg, Audrey Rose Arnold as Babe, and Sheldon Donenberg as Barnett, with Ben Peters debuting as Doc.
Performances take place Friday, March 21 at 7:30pm; Saturday, March 22 at 7:30pm; Sunday, March 23 at 3:00pm; Friday, March 28 at 7:30pm; Saturday, March 29 at 7:30pm; and Sunday, March 30 at 3:00pm. The mission of Jersey City Theater Center is to inspire conversations about the issues of our time through the arts. Co-founded by Executive Producer Olga Levina, an immigrant from Belarus, Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) produces and presents universal yet locally relevant works, emphasizing social justice and human rights.
Since 2006, JCTC has provided a platform for all artistic voices to be heard. They believe that when we share stories through the arts, we spark meaningful dialogue that leads to greater understanding and respect. And, as a result, we build better communities together.
Their core programs include Voices International Theatre Festival, Stories of Greenville, as well as original works. JCTC also provides youth arts education, artist support, and community outreach. In 2021, over 9,100 engaged with JCTC programs and they worked with over 400 artists.
