Presented by Mayor Ravi Bhalla, The Hoboken Division of Cultural Affairs, and Geri Fallo

originally published: 07/03/2025

(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- Local events organizer, Geri Fallo, who retired last year, is inviting you to celebrate with her, as she embraces new and exciting endeavors. Come enjoy a free evening of music in Hoboken's Sinatra Park (525 Sinatra Drive) on Thursday, July 17, 2025.  The evening is presented by Mayor Ravi Bhalla, The Hoboken Division of Cultural Affairs, and Geri Fallo. The event is free, and music starts at 6:30pm. Come early for the best seating.

Geripalooza will include performances from Freedy Johnston, playing with an incredible band featuring Paul Moschella (drums), Jared Michael Nickerson (bass), and Dave Schramm (guitar), and Karyn Kuhl and the Gang (featuring Kuhl’s long-time rhythm section of drummer Jonpaul Pantozzi and bassist Lou Ciarlo, the band now includes guitarist/producer Charlie Nieland (Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainright) and Billy Loos on percussion.   Notably, both Dave Schramm and Jared Michael Nickerson who played on Freedy’s seminal sophomore album Can You Fly will be playing with him for this special event.

Freedy Johnston - Originally from Kansas and now based in New Jersey, Freedy Johnson has acquired a great deal of media acclaim and fan adoration since the beginning of his career.  His sophomore album which was described upon its 1992 release as “a perfect album” by The Village VoiceCan You Fly will be available again for the first time in a quarter-century.  It has been remastered for compact disc and vinyl, including a clear vinyl first pressing and the 13-song Americana-rock classic is re-released by Sunset Blvd Records on July 11, 2025.  People described it as, “an extraordinary second album, one of the most tuneful, propulsive and penetrating of this or any year.”

Karyn Kuhl & The Gang - Karyn Kuhl first received national acclaim for her early bands Gut Bank and Sexpod, growing out of the vibrant Hoboken music scene and the legendary club Maxwell's. (“Gut Bank’s The Dark Ages is one exceptional debut album.” —Robert Palmer, New York Times) These days, she performs both as a solo act and leading Karyn Kuhl & The Gang. In addition to Kuhl’s long-time rhythm section of drummer Jonpaul Pantozzi and bassist Lou Ciarlo, the band now includes guitarist/producer Charlie Nieland (Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainright) & Billy Loos on percussion. Kuhl is currently in the studio with a new single to be released in the fall.

The evening’s master of ceremonies will be Jack Silbert. Sponsors are Ironstate, FOG (friends of Geri), and the City of Hoboken.  Special thank you to Cristin Cricco-Powell and the Hoboken Division of Cultural Affairs. In case of inclement weather, updates will be posted at: www.facebook.com/HobokenArtsScene
