REVIEW: "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"
 

These are the sounds that send a speller home: (Ding!) "That is incorrect!" And those sounds inevitably signal the exit of nine of 10 contestants in the "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," underway at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick through April 9.

 



The Summit Playhouse presents "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time"
 

(SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Summit Playhouse presents The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Simon Stephens. The production runs during the weekends from April 28 through May 13, 2023 at The Summit Playhouse. Fifteen-year-old Christopher has an extraordinary brain, but is ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. When he falls under suspicion for killing his neighbor's dog he sets out to identify the culprit, which leads to a journey that will change his life forever.

Kean Theatre Conservatory presents "Animal Farm"
 

(UNION, NJ) -- Kean Theatre Conservatory presents Animal Farm from March 24 to April 1st in the Bauer Boucher Theatre Center. Adapted by Ian Woolridge from the book by George Orwell, Animal Farm tells the story of a group of farm animals who rise up against the powers that be, hoping to create a society of equality and justice where the animals can be happy and free. But some are not as they appear.

New plays to get audience input at PlayWorks by Hudson Theatre Works
 

(WEEHAWKEN NJ) -- Hudson Theatre Works continues to shine a light on local playwrights and nurture their voices with the upcoming PlayWorks, where readings of new plays by contemporary and local playwrights are presented and the audience shares in the creative process, and the admission is free. In continuing their year of women playwrights, the readings for this year's PlayWorks are "Graceland Too" by Nicole Hughes on Monday, March 20 at 7:00pm and "Bird in a Box" by Joanne Hoersch on Monday, March 27 at 7:00pm.

 



Skyline Theatre Company to Present 2023 Season at the Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center in Partnership with the Township of Bloomfield
 

(BLOOMFIELD, NJ) -- Skyline Theatre Company, a 20-year-old professional theatre company previously calling Bergen County its home, will present its 2023 season in Bloomfield at the Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center, 240 Belleville Avenue.

 



Two River Theater presents New Modern Take on "Romeo and Juliet"
 

(RED BANK, NJ) -- A World Premiere modern verse translation of Shakespeare's ode to young love hits the stage at Two River Theater from April 8 – April 30, 2023. Romeo and Juliet, the classic tale of star-crossed love, is infused with contemporary vitality by playwright Hansol Jung (Wolf Play, Wild Goose Dreams, Cardboard Piano). Seen in 2020 as part of Two River Theater's Two River Rising online reading series, this Romeo and Juliet was originally commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Play On! Project and will be presented at Two River in partnership with the National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO).

Matchbox Twenty Release First Album in a Decade and announce Tour that includes Shows in Holmdel and Camden
 

Multi-platinum, superstar hit making pop-rockers Matchbox Twenty has returned with the single "Wild Dogs (Running In A Slow Dream)," marking their first new music release in over a decade. The song arrives alongside the announcement of the band's forthcoming fifth studio album, Where The Light Goes, arriving May 26 via Atlantic Records. The band also announced a spring/summer tour that includes shows at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel on July 15th and the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden on July 16th. Ben Rector will support the band at the New Jersey shows.
