The Lords of 52nd Street return to Newton

originally published: 01/20/2026

(NEWTON, NJ) -- The famed line-up that backed singer-songwriter Billy Joel for over a decade, The Lords of 52nd Street - Legends of Billy Joel Band returns to The Newton Theatre on Friday, January 23, 2026. The band that helped establish Billy Joel's formidable sound and sell 150 million records is led by drummer/percussionist Liberty DeVitto and guitarist Russell Javors. Showtime is 8:00pm.

The Lords of 52nd Street are the original members of Billy Joel’s iconic touring and recording band — the powerhouse musicians behind his classic albums TurnstilesThe Stranger52nd StreetGlass Houses, and The Nylon Curtain. Formed in 1975 when Billy Joel teamed up with fellow Long Islanders Doug Stegmeyer, Liberty DeVitto, Russell Javors, and later saxophonist Richie Cannata, the group defined Joel’s signature New York sound with their raw talent, tight musicianship, and unmistakable energy.

Together, they helped launch Joel from local clubs to sold-out arenas around the world, performing hits like “Only The Good Die Young,” “Just The Way You Are,” and “New York State of Mind.” After decades apart, The Lords reunited in 2016 following their induction into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame — and their live shows still deliver the same electrifying sound that made them legends. Known as New York’s favorite band, The Lords of 52nd Street continue to bring the timeless music of Billy Joel to life for fans old and new.

Tickets start at $52.50 and are available for purchase online. The Newton Theatre is located at 234 Spring Street in Newton, New Jersey.
