Newark Museum of Art presents Broadway in the Bricks on Friday

(NEWARK, NJ) -- Broadway in the Bricks is a live performance series that brings Broadway’s best and brightest talents to Newark. It returns live on stage Friday, July 8 at The Newark Museum of Art with a special “Jazz Night” honoring Broadway musicals from the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. Showtime is 7:00pm.

This anticipated evening performance will feature a live jazz quartet and a cast of sultry, show-stopping actors performing in Broadway musicals like Ain’t Misbehavin,  After Midnight, Chicago, and Sophisticated Ladies. Performers include: Avionce Hoyles, Daryl Stewart, Camille Upshaw, Gregory Omar Osborne, and a surprise guest.

General admission tickets are $15; tickets for NMOA Members, NJS Patrons and children are $12. Tickets are available for purchase online.

This program is organized by NMOA Visiting Curator of Performing Arts Daryl Stewart, a Newark-based theatre artist.  It is supported in part by Tito's Handmade Vodka and TD Charitable Foundation.

The Newark Museum of Art is located at 49 Washington Street in Newark, New Jersey. It is the state’s largest museum. It holds fine collections of American art, decorative arts, contemporary art, and arts of Asia, Africa, the Americas, and the ancient world. Its extensive collections of American art include works by Hiram Powers, Thomas Cole, John Singer Sargent, Albert Bierstadt, Frederick Church, Childe Hassam, Mary Cassatt, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, Joseph Stella, and Tony Smith.

This event is part of a series of public programs supporting the exhibitions Billie Holiday at Sugar Hill: Photographs by Jerry Dantzic and Jazz Greats: Classic Photographs from the Bank of America Collection. On view from June 9 to August 21, 2022.
