White Eagle Hall presents Fishbone

originally published: 11/03/2023

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- White Eagle Hall presents Fishbone on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 8:00pm.  Crazy & The Brains will open the night.  Doors are at 7:00pm.

Legendary in the history of American Ska, Rock Fusion and (so-called) Black Rock, FISHBONE started their twenty five-year professional career in Los Angeles burgeoning, Alternative Rock music scene of the mid-1980s. Their sound has often been imitated, but never duplicated. They have toured worldwide with such bands as the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Roots, Les Claypool/Primus, Fela Kuti, The Dead Kennedys and many more. Angelo Moore’s ability to combine thought-provoking, humorous social commentary with Fishbone brethren’s frenzied, up-tempo music and frantic, euphorically entertaining stage show has cultivated their undisputed reputation as one of the best live acts in music history. Moore himself is renowned as one of the very best live showmen; Gwen Stefani of platinum-selling Ska/Pop band No Doubt cites Moore as her idol.

Composing, creating, recording, releasing and performing original music for over two decades now Fishbone and their music has been featured in numerous films, commercials, and TV programs. Their catalogue has sold over 750,000 records worldwide, solidifying their rock n’ roll legacy as one of the most influential alternative rock bands in music history.

Tickets are $30 (plus fees) and are available for purchase online. White Eagle Hall is located at 337 Newark Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Opening act Crazy & The Brains was founded by singer/songwriter and visual artist Christoph Jesus. Originating as a solo act, Jesus devoutly performed the open mic scene in the LES Manhattan as an acoustic punk misfit striving to sound the way a Basquiat painting looked, before eventually releasing the first full length album with a complete band, titled Let Me Go.

Committed to the love of neo-expressionism/street art infused music, the group continued to release records independently with the albums Good Lord, Out In The Weedz, Into The Ugly and Where The Juice Drips followed by a variety of singles including East Side, Open Eyes and Punkrocker (gaining praise from Iggy Pop) - all consisting of a guitar, drums, bass, and xylophone instrumentation with various line up changes.

Crazy & The Brains proceed to push boundaries and confront limitations with erotic lyricism and eccentric, high energy stage performances. Always persistent in musical expansion the group are mixing  jazz and hip-hop sounds with their punk roots while adding dark synth and triumphant horns to the current lineup.

7 new singles will be released this year . The first track  "No Limit" is a straightforward lustful power-pop ballad. The second, "Ghosts Don't Die" takes a sharp turn into techno and deep house neighborhoods with subliminal hints of The Clash and Grace Jones. The third single, "Hold Me Close" dropped on Halloween. Jesus has described the sound of the song to be " Bad Brains energy meets Patti Smith romanticism" - a quote that accurately sums up the vibe of the band's impact as a whole.
