originally published: 08/04/2025

(TUCKERTON, NJ) -- The Lizzie Rose Music Room presents Skyla Burrell Band on Saturday, August 9, 2025. They are a hardworking blues band, known for their high-energy electric blues.  Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 7:30pm.

The band includes Skyla Burrell, Mark Tomlinson, Ezell Jones, and Rob Parks.

Tickets are $40 and available for purchase online.  The Lizzie Rose Music Room is located at at 217 East Main Street in Tuckerton, New Jersey.  Free parking is available.

Skyla Burrell was born in Los Angeles and raised in Orange County, California. Skyla formed her first band at the age of 13 and has been a working musician ever since. Skyla played with several bands as a teenager and young adult, working her way up and down Southern California. She relocated to the East Coast in her early 20's where she continued learning and growing from her musical experiences and eventually co-forming the Skyla Burrell Band. In addition to her singing, writing and guitar duties, Skyla also plays the piano.

Mark Tomlinson first hit the Blues scene in Syracuse NY, starting his musical journey on the drums. By the age of 21, MT joined Syracuse locals the Kingsnakes and hit the road with John Lee Hooker. After thousands of gigs on the drums backing the likes of Bo Diddley, Bobby Radcliffe, Big Time sarah, Mike Dugan & the Blues Mission, Charlie Hilbert & the NYC Blues Blazers and Katherine davis, MT grabs the guitar and Blazes up some Hard Drivin' Blues riffs with the Skyla Burrell Band. MT's original style comes from the likes of his idols--Magic Slim, Magic sam, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, Jimmy Vaughn, Ronnie Earl and the three Kings. In 2002 Mark and Skyla co-founded the Skyla Burrell Band and recorded 4 cds of all originals written by Mark & Skyla. MT and his Stratocaster are Blazing Blues trails with Skyla and her Telecaster, welding their guitars on stage and where ever the Blues will take them in the 21st Century.

Ezell Jones has toured the globe playing with world-class blues artists. He's been with the Skyla Burrell band since 2004.

Rob Parks is the newest member of the band, but they have known him since he was 15 years old. They met Rob when he came out to play regularly at their weekly blues jam. In the last 15 years, Rob graduated with a degree in music from Temple University and served in the armed forces, playing bass in the Army band. Rob's main instrument is bass, but he can play just about every instrument. Having been on the road with the band several times they always loved playing shows with him. Their schedules have finally allowed the opportunity to bring Rob in full-time and the band is thrilled.

COLUMNS

Lighty's Corner: April 13, 2026

I’m one of those guys who hates it when people say that rock and roll is dead. That there’s no good new music today. I actually think there may be more good music now than ever, but it’s just harder to find. Since we get a ton of new music sent to us at New Jersey Stage each week, I decided to try something new - a recorded DJ hosted radio show and a column spotlighting new works. The plan is to have a new one every two weeks.
