Classic Albums Live to Perform "Aretha's Gold" at bergenPAC

originally published: 06/22/2023

(ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- ** This event has been cancelled** Classic Albums Live will perform Aretha Franklin's Aretha's Gold at Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) on July 28, 2023. Note for note, cut for cut. Tickets range from $35-$65. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums Live takes the greatest albums and recreates them live on stage — note for note, cut for cut, using the best musicians. “Think of it as a recital,” says Martin, “these albums are historic and stand the test of time.” Forgoing costumes and impersonations, Classic Albums Live has found success in concentrating solely on the music. “We don’t dress up or wear any sort of costume. We just stand there and play. All of our energy is put into the music. We want the performance to sound exactly like the album,” says Martin.

Craig Martin realized that it was time for some serious soul music. They jumped at the chance to take on the “Queen” and perform Aretha’s Gold - a greatest hits album by Aretha Franklin, released in June 1969 by Atlantic Records, that showcases her versatility as a soul and rock n’ roll artist.

Given the weight of covering and performing Aretha live, Martin found it challenging to find soul singers. Many politely declined. But then, he came across Divine Brown. A star in the making, Divine has the confidence and natural ability to sing Aretha.

Seeing the show live and hearing Divine’s voice in the acoustics of a theater will be all that’s needed to give you goosebumps. And yes, they are bringing a big band. This is a must-see show that has everything to get you in the groove.
