The Trenton Children's Chorus (TCC) Hosts a Special Starlight Evening with Metropolitan Opera Star, Ryan Speedo Green on February 22

(TRENTON, NJ) -- The Trenton Children's Chorus (TCC) will host a special Starlight Evening with Metropolitan Opera star, Ryan Speedo Green on Thursday, February 22, 2018. The book Sing for Your Lifeby New York Times journalist Daniel Bergner, was written about Mr. Green’s personal and artistic journey from a trailer park in southeastern Virginia and time spent in Virginia’s juvenile facility of last resort, to the Met stage. The event will benefit Trenton Children’s Chorus.

“Mr. Green grew up facing many of the daily challenges that our kids struggle with”, says TCC Executive Director, Linda Helm Krapf. Green’s inspirational story is one of perseverance and inspiration. Despite the tough beginnings, and largely credited to a few caring teachers who looked more deeply into Green to see the enormous potential, he learned that his voice was a powerful gift that could touch people.

Prior to the Starlight event, Mr. Green will meet with teenage members of the Children’s Chorus to talk about his life experiences and rehearse songs they will perform together that evening.  The organization plans to make it an annual event, bringing prominent figures in the music world to the area. This year’s event features an elegant dinner served with wine and dessert, and a short performance by Mr. Green, held in the private home of a Princeton opera enthusiast.

Proceeds from Starlight Evening will support the on-going music education and academic support programs of Trenton Children’s Chorus.

The Trenton Children’s Chorus is an award-winning nonprofit organization providing exceptional music education and performance opportunities for hundreds of Trenton area youth since 1989. TCC has performed at the United Nations, the National Cathedral, the swearing-in ceremony of U.S. Representative Rush Holt in Washington D.C., the inaugurations of Governor Chris Christie, Princeton University’s Martin Luther King Day Celebration, in concert with Bobby McFerrin and Dave Brubeck. TCC choristers performed in the Princeton Festival’s production of Porgy and Bess, and for corporate, community, and private events throughout the region and state.
