(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- The Hackensack Performing Arts Center will present The Hackensack Music Festival on Saturday, May 26 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Artists scheduled to perform include Duke Jones, Armando son Jimenez and his band “Sabor”, Priya DeBerry, Daneik Ashley, SOAR, and Cedrina Shari. Admission is $20.
Trumpeter Albert Jones is affectionately known to all friends and followers as “Duke”. He is the co-founder and former member of multiple Grammy award-winning R&B/ Pop group Atlantic Starr and is an award-winning music producer. Duke has collaborated and recorded with such artists as August Darnell of Kid Creole & the Coconuts, and drummer-producer Norman Connors (Starship Orchestra). Duke has toured Japan, Europe, and Africa, working with established musicians such as the Temptations, Angela Bofill, Larry Coryell, and Marion Meadows, to name a few.
Armando son Jimenez and his band “Sabor” - Armando Jimenez from Cali, Colombia, a musician who started out as a percussionist in the bands of Colombia and Bolero singer Tito Cortez (RIP) and Los Del Caney by Maestro Luis Carlos Ochoa, has been in New York for the past 29 years and for more than 15 of those years he has been entertaining the salsa music lovers with his music. His first production, “Mi Cantar”, which appeared in 2004 had a great reception by the salsero public in Columbia and here in the USA. In 2013 he came out with his second album named “Conceptos”, which is still riding a high wave of success. Armando “Son Jimenez” and his band “Sabor” is a fixture in some of the best dancing venues in New York and New Jersey. His band has been playing at Las Palmas Restaurant once a month for the past 6 years. This band is always playing either for a great wedding reception or party at the beach in the summertime or at Salsa Festival in Hackensack, Perth Amboy, Elizabeth, Dover, or any other place that needs that little thing we Latinos call “Sabor”
Priya DeBerry is a multi-genre electric violinist from Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn. At the age of 9, she began studying classically through the Noel Pointer Foundation. Although classically-trained, her love for various genres continue to grow, particularly in Gospel, Priya has become a devoted musician in church, where it all began. Performing with her family members the DeBerry family was the motivation and training ground for Priya to focus on taking her music to the next level.
Daneik Ashley - Brooklyn-born began acting and singing at an early age. By the time she was 6, Daneik was clear that she was destined to be a singer/songwriter. By age 11 she began creating, writing and singing her own lyrics.
SOAR - Sounds of A & R aka S.O.A.R Is the brainchild of vocalist April May Webb and trumpeter Randall Hayward. Partners in music and in life, April and Randall have come together creating a distinct sound that uses aspects of Swing, cool, hard bop, and Avant-garde jazz. SOAR has enjoyed three weeks atop The Jazz week music charts.
Cedrina Shari, born and raised in Philadelphia, PA has made literal the phrase “All the world’s a stage”. Performing Internationally, Cedrina was blessed to live in; London, Zurich, Moscow and Guangzhou over the past 6 years while touring and opening for various artists, such as; Boney M, George Clinton, and Akon. Recently, Cedrina decided to bring her efforts stateside to continue her dream of being a Social Media Manager. As a recent graduate from Full Sail University with a B.A in Entertainment Business, Cedrina hopes to help other artists find their little piece of “heaven”. Some of her previous credits include; “Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope” (NBTF 2011), “Crowns” (NBTF 2014), “By a Black Hand” (Teen Theater) Black Nativity, and Winner of 2011 NBTF Teen Showcase. Cedrina has also been featured in Hinton Battle’s Off-Broadway Hit “Love Lies” and also held a weekly residency as the headline at NYC’s Flatiron Hotel.
