"The Brighton Bar - Home Of Original Music" Documentary To Be Screened In Long Branch

(LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- From the 1970s to today the Brighton Bar has been a live music venue and a staple of the New Jersey music scene.  On Wednesday, November 28th at 7:00pm, a free showing of The Brighton Bar - Home Of Original Music  - a documentary about the venue will be screened at The NJ Rep West End Arts Center.

The documentary was first screened during the Sonic Highways Hometown Documentaries Film Festival held on October 23 and 24 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. It was created by Long Branch students.

Sonic Highways Hometown Documentaries is a project-based learning initiative, created by the Rock and Roll Forever Foundation, that empowers groups of students to create a filmed portrait of their town’s musical history through research in libraries and archives, interviews with family members, local musicians, venue owners, historians, and fans.

Inspired by the award-winning HBO series, Sonic Highways, these documentaries provide students a dynamic, hands-on way to explore local history through music, by problem solving, working on creating long form narratives, and engaging in basic filmmaking. Completed films shine in students’ portfolios, demonstrating their ability to work in groups, organize and finish a major project, and apply scholarly concepts to real-world tasks.

Admission is free to the screening, which will be held at the NJ Rep West End Arts Center (123 West End Avenue) in Long Branch, New Jersey.  A pre-viewing cocktail party with hors d'oeuvres will be held at the Brighton Bar at 5:30pm.
