(SPRING LAKE,NJ) -- The South Street Players presents A.R. Gurney's Sylvia on two weekends - February 1-3 and February 8-10. The place is New York City, the time is the present. Middle-aged, upper-middle class Greg finds Sylvia, a dog (played by a human), in the park and takes a liking to her. He brings her back to the empty nest he shares with Kate.
When Kate gets home, she reacts very negatively to Sylvia and wants her gone. They eventually decide that Sylvia will stay for a few days before they decide whether she can stay longer, but Greg and Sylvia have already bonded.
Over the next few days, Greg spends more and more time with Sylvia and less time at his job. Greg and Sylvia go on long walks; they discuss life and astronomy. Already dissatisfied with his job, Greg now has another reason to avoid work.
Directed by Annette Curran, performances take place on Friday, February 1st and 8th at 8:00pm; Saturday, February 2nd and 9th at 8:00pm; and Sunday, February 3rd and 10th at 2:00pm. All performances are at Wesley Hall in Spring Lake, New Jersey.
The South Street Players is a non-profit organization in existence since 1982. We incorporated in 1997 as a 501(c)3 organization. Our primary source of income is ticket sales from the company's yearly stage productions, nominal income from various fundraising ventures, selling space in the Playbill for advertising, and through the generosity of our donors. Expenses consist of those costs normally associated with the staging of plays - licensing fees, set construction, lighting and equipment, advertising, etc. We minimize expenses by drawing on the talents of our Executive Board, Players Members, and numerous volunteers for most play production costs. All donations to The South Street Players will be greatly appreciated and may be tax deductible.
