Sandy's Aftermath and Recovery Shown In "91 Days; Countless Nights" At Brookdale

(LINCROFT, NJ) -- More than 60 photographs documenting the aftermath and recovery from Hurricane Sandy will go on display in Brookdale Community College’s Center for Visual Arts (CVA) Gallery on October 20 as part of a new exhibit titled “91 Days; Countless Nights.” The exhibit, featuring the work of Shark River Hills-based photographer Kevin R. Burkitt, includes dozens of long-exposure photos taken throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties from November 2012 to April 2015. It will be on display through November 12.

The images, captured exclusively between 10:00pm and 4:00am, document the radical transformation of local communities in the wake of the storm, rather than the “iconic” images of destruction that appeared on the national news, said Burkitt.

Sandy's Aftermath and Recovery Shown In "91 Days; Countless Nights" At Brookdale“Growing up where I did, I never appreciated the quality and the character of the structures where we lived. Within 48 hours, it was gone,” said Burkitt, a Manasquan native. “I’m hoping this exhibit will help people remember what it was like five years ago, and to appreciate both the power of nature and the beauty of the world around them. It can all change so quickly, and for many people, it will never be the same again.”

The opening reception for “91 Days; Countless Nights” will be held at 5:30pm on Friday, October 20 at the CVA Gallery, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. It is free and open to all. Parking is in lots 1 and 2. For more information call 732-224-2881 or visit www.brookdalecc.edu/events.

The exhibit, part of Brookdale’s 2017-18 Visiting Artist Series, is funded in part by a grant from the Monmouth County Arts Council.
