Pink Arts Peace Productions, Inc. (PAPPI) is a North Jersey-based production company founded by actress Sunflower Duran and is in the rehearsal phase for its second theater production this year. PAPPI produces YouTube web-series Blonde Brunette, starring Sunflower Duran, as well as the music for the hip-hip group Chasing Mermaids led by the multi-talented and dynamic actress herself, Paradox, and Big Mike the Emcee. Chasing Mermaids’ single “I Flip Thou” was played nearly 35,000 times on Spotify in just a few months.
PAPPI’s first stage production was the play 2 Faces One Mirror, which was originally written and directed by Mario Lantigua, and opened at The American Theater of Actors in December of 2018. This play, which Lantigua wrote when he was in high school, sat for almost three decades until PAPPI brought this story to life in front of a New York City audience at the landmark theater. It was very well received by the audience and Rebecca Benedict of Drama Queens Reviews wrote, “The acting was so connecting and emotional thanks to both the actors and the outstanding writing.”
On May 28 of this year, PAPPI is returning to The ATA with John Patrick Shanley’s Women of Manhattan, which was originally produced in 1986. Taking on the role of Director, Sunflower Duran is looking to bring this 34-year-old work into the year 2020.
The play will be starring Sunflower Duran as Billie, Jillian Antoinette Eckland as Rhonda Louis, and Antonette Leonie as Judy. This production will also be featuring David Jung and Aryeh Haza.
Like Shanley, Sunflower Duran is an alum of the NYU Steinhardt School of Education and Human Development where she studied Media, Culture & Communication Studies. She has been a member of SAG since 2011, has had a long-standing career in marketing, and also serves as Board Member at Large for the 4th U Artivists.
The challenge for PAPPI as a startup is finding the funding to bring this work to life. Please help PAPPI make the dreams of the cast of Women of Manhattan come true. PAPPI’s mission and vision is set on turning up-and-coming Artists’ dreams into reality by giving Artists a platform to showcase their work. The PAPPI motto is that dreamers become thinkers and evolve into Artists. Show PAPPI some love today! To read more about PAPPI and meet the whole team, visit www.pinkartspeace.com. A portion of the proceeds for Women of Manhattan will be donated to Rebuilding Together North Jersey, an organization dedicated to providing for those who do not have the financial means to maintain their homes.
