(RED BANK, NJ) -- See the movie before New York or Los Angeles! Monmouth Arts will provide another installation of its “Film Sneak Peek” series with Never Look Away, an epic tale of art and history spanning three turbulent decades of 20th-century Germany, on November 29 at Bow Tie Cinemas in Red Bank at 7:00pm.
Inspired by real events, Never Look Away follows the lives of famous Nazi doctor Professor Seeband (Sebastian Koch) and young art hopeful Kurt (Tom Schilling), both struggling to reconcile their personal aspirations with their country’s politics. Amid the chaos of postwar Germany, Kurt is accepted into the forward-thinking Dusseldorf Art Academy and falls in love with fashion student, Ellie (Paula Beer), unaware of how tightly their histories intertwine. Ellie's father, Professor Seeband, dismayed at his daughter's choice of boyfriend, is determined to destroy her relationship with the penniless artist in order to conceal a terrible crime he committed decades ago.
Never Look Away was selected as the German entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, and it was screened in the main competition section of the 75th Venice International Film Festival. This screening is the latest offering in Monmouth Arts’ long-running series “Film Sneak Peeks,” made possible by the generosity of Sony Pictures Classics, Tom Bernard, and Bow Tie Cinemas--Red Bank.
Film tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Join Monmouth Arts prior to the screening at 5:30 p.m. for a reception at Jamian’s Food and Drink, with tickets to both the film and reception available online for $45 ($35 for Monmouth Arts members).
Monmouth Arts, the official arts agency of Monmouth County, enriches the community by inspiring and fostering the arts. Programs are made possible through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
