Lunar Eclipse Event, Star Shows, Laser Concerts Set at RVCC Planetarium

Lunar Eclipse Event, Star Shows, Laser Concerts Set at RVCC Planetarium(BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- The Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium January programs include a special late-night Total Lunar Eclipse Viewing Party, laser concerts featuring music by Pink Floyd and Bon Jovi, and star shows for audiences of all ages. The following programs have been scheduled:

Magic Tree House: Space Mission, Saturdays, January 5, 12, 19 at 3:00pm - Join Jack and Annie as they discover the secrets of the Sun, Moon, planets, space travel, and more. Who can help them answer the questions left for them by the mysterious "M"? The show is based on the same-titled, best-selling series of novels. (Recommended for ages 5 and older)

Laser Kids, Saturdays, January 5, 12, 19 at 4:00pm - Kids and kids at heart sing along while lasers dance on the dome overhead. Songs include “Try Everything” from the movie Zootopia, “YMCA” by the Village People, and “Everything is Awesome” from the LEGO Movie. (Recommended for ages 6-12)

Astronomy Tonight, Saturday, January 5 at 7:00pm - Using the Planetarium’s DigitalSky digital theater, experience a guided tour of the night sky. Learn about some of the popular constellations visible from sunset to sunrise, as well as the stories behind them. This month, we highlight the upcoming Total Lunar Eclipse. Weather permitting, the 3M Observatory will be open after the show. (Recommended for ages 8-adult)

Best of Pink Floyd laser concert, Saturdays, January 5 & 12 at 8:00pm - Lasers dance across the Planetarium’s dome, accompanied by Pink Floyd songs including “Comfortably Numb,” “Another Brick in the Wall, part 2,” and “Money.”

Black Holes, Saturdays, January 12, 19, 26 at 7:00pm - Audience members are taken on a journey through one of the most mystifying, awe-inspiring phenomena in the universe: a black hole. Where do they come from?  How do we find them?  Is there one on Earth's horizon?  Explore the science and mystery of Black Holes. (Recommended for ages 8-adult)

Laser Bon Jovi, Saturdays, January 19 & 26 at 8:00pm - The music of New Jersey’s own Jon Bon Jovi is the star of this new laser concert. Sing along with some of the band’s greatest hits including “Bad Medicine,” “Runaway,” “Livin’ on a Prayer,” and “Wanted Dead or Alive.”

Total Lunar Eclipse Viewing Party, Sunday, January 20 from 10:00pm-midnight - Join us outside the Planetarium and 3M Observatory to watch the Moon move through Earth’s shadow during this wonderful celestial event. As part of the evening’s activities, free, 15-minute astronomy shows explaining eclipses will be presented. The partial eclipse begins at 10:34pm and the total eclipse begins at 11:41pm.

Rockin’ Rocket Ride, Saturday, January 26 at 3:00pm - Put on your space suit and blast-off into outer space to visit the Moon, Sun and planets. A lively experience for young people, the show features selected music from Journey Into Space by Jane Murphy. (Recommended for ages 3-8)

SkyLights, Saturday, January 26 at 4:00pm - The youngest audience members can sing along with songs by mr. RAY (“Family Ride,” “Kalien the Alien”) and Jane Murphy (“Moon Rock Rock,” “The Planet Song”).  Some songs are illustrated with lasers, while others feature video images. (Recommended for ages 3-8)
