Interdisciplinary Artist Taji Ra’oof Nahl To Perform At MCCC Gallery

(WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- The Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will host a special performance featuring interdisciplinary artist Taji Ra'oof Nahl on Wednesday, March 21. This free event takes place from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with Nahl’s presentation to start at 6:00pm. The event is open to the public.

Nahl is a sculptor, filmmaker and musician who has performed extensively in gallery and educational settings. Recent performances have taken place at Moore College of Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Originally part of the seventh Micro Film Festival #7, Nahl will project three films simultaneously on the gallery wall as he explores the past- and present-day surveillance state. During the screening of the films, Nahl will perform a live improv score with fellow musician Joan Lopez. An informal Q&A session will follow the presentation.

“Visitors will have a unique opportunity to view the films while also listening to a live soundtrack scoring session,” said Lucas Kelly, the Gallery’s director/curator, and an MCCC professor of Visual Arts. “This is an interdisciplinary event that brings together different disciplines. What we think of as traditional boundaries in the arts don't exist here. We expect to draw visitors who are interested in visual arts, theater, film, sound production, music, and performance.”

The MCCC Gallery is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. More information, including directions, is available at www.mccc.edu/gallery.
