City Winery Hosts Two Nights Of Tribute To Glam Rock Icon Marc Bolan

(NEW YORK, NY) -- Marking the 70th anniversary of U.K. Glam-Rock Icon Marc Bolan's birth and the 40th of his passing, City Winery will celebrate Bolan's life and musical legacy with two nights (October 22-23 at 8:00pm) of songs with an all-star cast of musicians.  The celebration will showcase songs from Tyrannsaurus Rex through all the T.Rex classics, including jewels from the seminal 'Electric Warrior', 'The Slider' & 'Tanx', & hit singles like “Ride a White Swan”, “Children of the Revolution”, "Metal Guru" &  "Get It On".  The event is hosted and curated by acclaimed NYC singer-songwriters Joe Hurley (Rogue's March/The Gents/Keith Richards) & Edward Rogers.

The all-star Band includes: Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer Clem Burke (Blondie), Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith), Steve Conte (NY Dolls) Tish & Snooky (Blondie, Manic Panic) Geoff Blythe (Dexys), Claudia Chopek (Moby, Father John Misty) Emily Hope Price & Rob Youngberg will back a star-studded array of special guests singing Bolan's praises.

Guest artists for 2017 are coming from all over the world to be a part of this special event.  The list includes Rolan Bolan, Suzanne Vega,  Lloyd Cole, Joe Hurley, Edward Rogers, Ivan Julian (Richard Hell, The Clash), Ellen Foley, R&R Hall Of Famer Dennis Dunaway of Alice Cooper Group, Gerry Leonard (David Bowie M.D./Gtr) Shannon Conley ( Broadway's 'Hedwig', Lez Zeppelin), Cabaret Star Tammy Faye, Eszter Balint, Octavia Cup Dance Theatre, Film star Cara Seymour ('American Psycho' 'Gangs Of New York' - '1984' on Broadway) Don Fleming (Sonic Youth), Ian McDonald (Sax Player on T.Rex 'Electric Warrior' & co-founder of King Crimson) Scotland's Angela McCluskey, Ireland's Screaming Orphans, Paul Cantelon (Michael Stipe), NYC's Don Piper, Karmen Guy (Mad Juana) Tom Clark & Diane Gentile, UK's Daphne Guinness & Malcolm Doherty ( Tony Visconti's Holy Holy) Ireland's Pierce Turner, Automatic Shoes, London's Gaz Thomas, Tonvs Maximvs  & many more.

The event will  feature a free Glam-Slam Booth for the audience -Octavia Cup Dancers will apply makeup, glitter, stars, & boas to all.

Hurley's 1997 event for the Bolan 20th Anniv. celebrations took place over 3 sold-out nights at Fez (drawing fans like Michael Stipe & U2's Larry Mullen) with the 2007 Concert a sold-out Glamathon at Delacorte Theatre, Central Park (featuring Tony Visconti, Patti Smith, Moby, NY Dolls & Scissor Sisters) and he's kept it a T.Rex Family Affair by again reuniting the All-Star 'Bolan Bop' Band for this year's shows. The longest running & biggest Bolan Celebration in the USA, Hurley's T.Rextasy extravaganzas honouring his childhood idol began in 1990.

Clearly, Marc Bolan's spirited, cheeky & innovative songwriting, his huge cultural significance and lasting musical influence, remain as strongly felt as ever, forty years after his passing ; Musicians & fans alike all deeply touched forever by The King Of Glam, the 20th Century Boy, The Twopenny Prince who gave us ' Hot Love', was born to boogie and danced all through his life. 

2017 Guest of Honour - Rolan Bolan, will be the 2017 Guest of Honour, in his 1st appearance at the Gala NYC concerts celebrating his father : A powerhouse singer/songwriter in his own right, Rolan is carrying on two distinctive musical legacies, as the son of  glam rock legend Marc Bolan & Motown singer-songwriter Gloria Jones. In 2014, his song “Trust” won Best Alternative Song at the Hollywood Music In Media Awards (HMMA).

The Hosts -  Joe Hurley: A 2x Audie Award Winner with Keith Richards & Johnny Depp for the Best-Seller 'LIFE', Hurley's CD with Colum McCann Let The Great World Spin was inspired by McCann's NBA Winning novel.Hurley has sung and/or recorded with Tony Visconti, The Chieftains, PJ Harvey, Neil Gaiman, Sam Shepard, Marianne Faithfull, Ian Hunter, Judy Collins & Jimmy Webb, Shane MacGowan, Flogging Molly. He is the founder & curator of Joe Hurley's All-Star Irish Rock Revue (20th year in March 2018.) 

Edward Rogers: UK born, singer-songwriter released his 7th solo album this year - TV Generation - to rave reviews. "Steeped in classic British rock influences dominated by Edward's way with a tune and pleasingly Anglophile presentation.  In the tradition of Nick Cave, Kevin Ayers and Ray Davies, TV Generation pairs Rogers' authentic and reflective lyricism with his powerful melodic voice creating an album that is grounded in British songwriting and observational storytelling" Shindig Magazine  Rogers co-hosts a weekly radio show, Atlantic Tunnel, on Little Water Radio.

Fundraising - Raised in S.E. London on the music of Bolan & Bowie, Hurley is delighted to be fundraising at these concerts for the Marc Bolan of Music in Sierra Leone, run By Gloria Jones &  Rolan Bolan. The MB school supplies free instruments, classes, computers, to the children of this impoverished area.

City Winery is located at 155 Varick Street in New York City.  Doors will open each night at 6:00pm, show begin at 8:00pm. Tickets are available online.
