(BOUND BROOK, NJ) -- The Brook Arts Center presents Pulitzer Prize-winning 1996 Best Musical Tony Award winner, Rent. Written by Jonathan Larson and debuting on Broadway 25 years ago, Rent will run November 12-21, 2021. Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side under the shadow of HIV/AIDS epidemic of the early 1990s.
Rent is a dramatic, yet uplifting story, using rock music to evoke the tough, angry, and terrifying reality of a world wrought with drug addiction, suicide, and AIDS, all underscored by a theme of hope. For a quarter of a century, Jonathan Larson’s Rent has inspired us to choose love over fear and to live without regret. With its inspiring message of joy and aspiration in the face of fear, this timeless celebration of friendship and creativity reminds us to measure our lives with the only thing that truly matters—love.
The Media and Performance Collective and Brook Arts Center are producing Rent to benefit Club Serenity, a New Jersey non-profit organization dedicated to providing recovery services to those addicted to alcohol and drugs.
Performances Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00pm and on Sundays at 2:00pm. Adult tickets $30 and Student/Senior tickets $20. Reserved social distance seating tickets are available for purchase online or by calling 732-469-7700. The theater is ADA accessible, offers concessions, and free parking in the adjacent lot.
