Debra Devi To Present Multimedia Talk On "Language Of The Blues" In Jersey City(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- On Tuesday, April 16, Jersey City rock musician Debra Devi will give her “Language of the Blues” multimedia talk at Nonlinear Knitting Studio for The Latest Noise Artist Development Workshop series.  Tickets are $20.

Devi is the author of The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu (foreword by Dr. John), which won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for Outstanding Book on Music. Bonnie Raitt calls The Language of the Blues “a great resource, as fascinating as it is informative,” adding, “Debra’s passion for the blues shines through.”

The Language of the Blues explores the origins and meanings of blues terms like mojo, buffet flat and killing floor. Devi interviewed many blues legends for the book, including Hubert Sumlin, Robert Jr. Lockwood, Henry Gray and Dr. John.

Devi has previously given her talk, which includes songs and a slideshow, at TedX Jersey City, A. Schwab’s in Memphis, and Jersey City Theatre Center. JCTC artistic director Olga Levina notes, "Debra Devi conducted an unforgettable evening of music, lecture and discussion centered around her important book, The Language of the Blues. The way she engaged the audience made the blues fresh and relevant to neophytes and aficionados alike.”

Devi is currently in the studio with producer John Agnello finishing three songs she has recorded with Gov’t Mule bassist Jorgen Carlsson, to be released as singles this spring.

"Don't think that The Language of the Blues might read like a dictionary or reference book. There's no plot, but you can open it up at random and fall into the world of your favorite Blues songs, and find out more about the lyrics than you would be guessing from context. I learned a lot more about the Blues music I already loved." -- Bob Margolin (Muddy Waters Band)

"Every blues guitarist needs to know their blues history and where the blues are coming from. Debra's book will teach you what you really need to know." -- Joe Bonamassa

Nonlinear Knitting Studio is located at 195 New York Avenue, Unit 3E in Jersey City New Jersey. The event is presented by The Latest Noise.  Tickets are available for purchase online.
