The mission of the National Symphony Orchestra of Romania is to attract the brightest Romanian musicians between the ages of 18-35 to create a unique creative experience in the common pursuit of musical excellence. The orchestra’s roots lay in a unique artistic and educational program, which was founded in 2008 following an initiative by cellist Marin Cazacu with the support of the Friends of Music from the Serafim Antropov Foundation. The orchestra’s academic program strives to offer young musicians the opportunity to explore demanding repertoire through master classes and concerts, and more importantly, to participate in the joy of music-making under esteemed conductors such as Lawrence Foster, Kristjan Järvi, and Cristian Măcelaru, and with leading soloists including Pinchas Zukerman, Sarah Chang, David Garrett, Elizabeth Leonskaja, and Andrei Ioniță.

The orchestra’s concerts at the Romanian Athenaeum and the George Enescu International Festival are regularly sold out and international tours have brought them to the Gustav Mahler International Festival, Ravello International Festival, Vienna Konzerthaus, Berlin Konzerthaus, and Grande Theatre de Provence in Aix-en-Provence. Forthcoming tours will see them perform in France including for their debut at the Philharmonie de Paris and in Germany, Spain, Brussels, and Austria.

The Empire Strikes Back in Concert with the NJSO LIVE! at the State Theatre
Some of our favorite childhood memories growing up at the Jersey Shore involved going to our town’s grand old movie palace, The Community Theater, in Toms River. Built with colonial architecture and featuring large white columns in the front, paned glass windows in the lobby, a circular brick walk from the sidewalk to the box office, and a white picket fence which enclosed a lawn and a flower bed, this local gem presented the latest Hollywood films. For kids like us back in the 1960’s, that meant pictures like Mary Poppins, Cinderella, The Love Bug, and Flipper.
