  • Summer Theatre Conservatory Enrollment At Dreamcatcher Now Through June 1st
    (SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- DREAMCATCHER REPERTORY THEATRE, professional Theatre in Residence at the Baird Center in South Orange, is beginning enrollment for its Summer Theatre Conservatory, to be offered from June 29 through July 27, 2012. Students in this varied program will take classes in subjects like acting technique, improv, voice, and dance and will have the opportunity to create and put on a show! The program is open to actors aged 10 to 13 and 14 to 17. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm (with a special performance July 27 at 7:30 pm) at Dreamcatcher's home at the Baird Center, 5 Mead Street in South Orange.

  • New Jersey Rep Presents "The Hound of the Baskervilles" by Steven Canny and John Nicholson
    (LONG BRANCH, NJ) New Jersey Repertory Company, located at 179 Broadway in Long Branch is proud to present the New Jersey premiere of the Steven Canny, John Nicholson British comedy, "The Hound of the Baskervilles". Directed by Mark Shanahan, the plays stars Wynn Harmon, Gary Marachek, and Rich Silverstein.   • Premiere Stages Announces 2012 Theatre for Young Audiences
    (UNION, NJ) Premiere Stages at Kean University announces "Play Factory 2012," the annual summer family series presenting Pushcart Players, New Jersey's renowned touring theatre for young audiences. "Stone Soupand other stories" will be on Wednesday, July 18 at 11:00 am and "Little Red Riding Hood" plays on Wednesday, July 25 at 11:00 am in the Wilkins Theatre.

  • South Orange Performing Arts Center Presents Annual Spring Benefit With Special Guest Russell Thompkins, Jr. & The New Stylistics
    (SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- On Friday, June 1st at 8pm, the South Orange Performing Arts Center will present its Annual Spring Benefit featuring the soulful vocals of Russell Thompkins, Jr. & the New Stylistics. Pre-concert cocktails in the SOPAC lobby will begin at 6:30pm. A post-concert karaoke reception will take place at 10pm.

  • Chester Theatre Group presents: The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh May 4-20
    (CHESTER, NJ) -- Set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, this darkly comic Irish tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early forties, and Mag, her manipulative, aging mother, who interferes in Maureen's first and possibly final chance for a loving relationship, triggering events that lead relentlessly towards the play's terrifying resolution. This play won four Tony awards and the 1998 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play.

  • Registration Open for Cape May Stage's Discovery Summer Theatre Camp
    (Cape May, NJ) -- Cape May Stage, South Jersey's premier Equity theatre, is pleased to announce another chapter in their continuing commitment to quality educational programming. Cape May Stage's Discovery Summer Theatre Camp begins on July 10, 2012 and is available in two sessions over a two-week period for two different age groups, ages 9-12 and ages 13-16. This year's camp will be held at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse in downtown historic Cape May.

  • Local Theater Group Supports 180 Turning Lives Around
    When Lauren Matthews Raad founded the Garden State Players last year, she wanted to give back to the community. This month, GSP has given its first major donation to a local nonprofit, 180 Turning Lives Around. On April 12, Raad presented 180 with a check for $2,700, which GSP raised through various efforts, including ticket sales from its March show. An additional $300 was given to V-Day, a global movement to end violence against women and girls.

  • Cape May Stage Presents the New Jersey Premiere of Uncle Jacques' Symphony
    (Cape May, NJ) Cape May Stage is pleased to present the New Jersey premiere of Uncle Jacques' Symphony: the inaugural production of their 2012 Main Stage season. Featuring music by Branford Marsalis, this tour-de-force performance about the life of a Chicago jazz drummer stars double Ovation Award winner Dominic Hoffman in his self-penned masterpiece. This Equity production opens Friday, May 11 at 8 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on Bank and Lafayette Streets.

    (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Something wicked this way comes to the Bickford Theatre as Tony Award-nominee and American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages) joins nearly a dozen Broadway favorites to salute the sinister side of Broadway in the benefit evening Life Upon the Wicked Stage: Broadway's Greatest Villains, Thieves and Ladies of the Evening on Saturday, June 9, 2012, 8 pm, at the Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum, 6 Normandy Heights Road, in Morristown, NJ.

  • George Street Playhouse to Host An Intimate Evening with MARLO THOMAS
    (New Brunswick, NJ) -- David Saint, Artistic Director of George Street Playhouse, announced today that actress and philanthropist MARLO THOMAS will make a special appearance at the New Brunswick theatre Saturday, June 2 at 8pm. Proceeds from this "one night only" event will benefit the Playhouse's mainstage and educational programming. Tickets to the event are priced at $125 and $60; the $125 VIP ticket price includes premium seating in the theatre and an exclusive, private reception with Ms. Thomas after the performance.

  • Two River Theater Presents Alan Ayckbourn's "My Wonderful Day"

  • Footlighters Concludes Season With Great American Trailer Park Musical

  • JUNIE B. JONES comes to Monmouth University
    (WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- Monmouth University Center for the Arts and the Alumni Association will present Junie B. Jones, a musical based on the books by Barbara Park, at the Pollak Theatre on Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. Outspoken, precocious, lovable Junie B. Jones stars in a colorful, funny, fast-paced musical about new friends, new glasses, sugar cookies, the annual kickball tournament, and other various first-grade angst-ridden situations. Follow her adventures as she writes down the story of her life in her "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal." This new musical is based on four volumes in Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones series of books, illustrated by Denise Brunkus and published by Random House: Junie B, First Grader (at Last!); Junie B, Boss of Lunch; Junie B, One-Man Band; and Top-Secret Personal Beeswax: A Journal by Junie B (and Me!).

  • Soap Star Brian Gaskill Named as Director of Summer Theater Camp
    (HAZLET, NJ) -- Garden State Players has recently named Brian Gaskill, daytime soap star, actor, producer, poet and teaching artist, as its new education director and summer theater camp instructor. Gaskill, a New Jersey native and graduate of Red Bank Regional High School, is best known for his roles on "Guiding Light," "As the World Turns," " The Bold and the Beautiful," "Port Charles," "All My Children" and "Models, Inc." He is currently starring in the webisoap, "The Bay: Dark Side of the Bay," airing worldwide this summer.

  • The SHakespeare Theatre of new Jersey reaches half a million students with Shakespeare LIVE!
    (MADISON, NJ) - The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's esteemed educational touring program Shakespeare LIVE! has reached the extraordinary milestone of performing for half a million students, the Theatre has announced. Now in its 16th season, the flagship of the Theatre's many outreach programs is the largest classical touring company for young people in the mid-Atlantic region. Since 1997, Shakespeare LIVE! has been presenting fully-staged productions of Shakespeare's plays and other classic works in schools and other community venues throughout the tri-state region and states along the East coast. Performances are appropriate for students in grades 3-12, and are abridged to run in 60-90 minutes without compromising the integrity of the original language. Each innovative production combines Shakespeare's text with dynamic, imaginative visuals that illuminate the contemporary relevance of the works for young audiences. Performances are augmented by a comprehensive study guide, a post-performance discussion with the actors, and interactive workshops. Shakespeare LIVE! is the only New Jersey company that has been selected to participate in the National Endowment for the Arts' prestigious nationwide initiative, Shakespeare in American Communities, and has been a part of that ground-breaking initiative for eight seasons.

  • Get Rocked by L!VEs Hedwig & the Angry Inch!
    (Asbury Park, NJ) -- L!VE Asbury Park is pleased to announce its upcoming production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Chris Hall (Hedwig) and Kendal Hartse (Yitzhak) have signed on as the leads along side musicians Michael Thomas Murray, Mike Preen and Steve Kelly.   • Teddy Roosevelt Musical to Debut at Shadow Lawn

  • The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey launches 50th Anniversary Season with Shakespeare's Epic Henry IV, Part One
    (MADISON, NJ) -- The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will launch its 2012 milestone 50th Anniversary season with William Shakespeare's saga of a young prince's reformation and ascent to manhood Henry IV, Part One. Considered one of Shakespeare's most popular history plays, this rousing tale has not been produced on The Shakespeare Theatre stage in 20 years. Henry IV, Part One begins performances on May 30 and runs through June 24 at the Theatre's Main Stage the F. M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre.   • 4th Wall Theatre Closes Its 15th Anniversary Season With "Parade"
    (Bloomfield, NJ) 4TH WALL THEATRE will close out its 15th anniversary season with a main stage production of the musical Parade. With a book by Alfred Uhry, and music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, Parade tells the real life story of Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia, who is put on trial in 1913 for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan, an Atlanta pencil factory worker in his employ. Through the difficult process of proving his innocence, Leo and his wife find a new way to love and support each other.
