Asbury Music was originally created way back in 2002 as a website covering the Asbury Park music scene. The website was one of the first of its kind in the area and won several Asbury Music Awards for Top Website. After a few years, the site morphed into an online radio station, ultimately changing its name to The Penguin.
For nearly a decade, The Penguin played nothing but music by new indie artists, often giving artists some of their first airplay anywhere.
In 2017, the station switched its format to what we call "Classic Jersey" -- we still play new indie artists, but with a heavy emphasis on artists from New Jersey, mixed with classic rock, 80s rock and great deep cuts as well.
