Lucas Wilson to Compete In 2024 Poetry Out Loud National Semifinals

(WASHINGTON, DC) -- Lucas Wilson, a 12th grade student at Red Bank Regional High School was recently named the 2024 New Jersey Poetry Out Loud champion, one of more than 160,800 students to compete in this poetry recitation competition across the nation this year. Wilson is now advancing to the Poetry Out Loud National Semifinals in Washington, DC on Wednesday, May 1. Wilson will compete in the first semifinal, beginning at 9:00am, which will be available through a one-time-only webcast at arts.gov/Poetry-Out-Loud.

U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón to Launch "You Are Here" with Anthology of Nature Poems, Poetry Installations in National Parks

"You Are Here," Ada Limón's signature project as the nation's 24th Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry, will launch during National Poetry Month in April with a celebration at the Library of Congress and will continue throughout the year with installations of poetry as public art in national parks across the country.

Ragged Sky Press releases "A Jar of Moths" by Ilene Millman

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Ragged Sky Press has announced the publication of Ilene Millman's second book of poetry, A Jar of Moths, available March 15, 2024. In this collection, Ilene Millman seizes the opportunity to explore the inside, the outside, and the upside down of living. The poems reflect Millman's life as a Brooklyn girl, a wife, mother and grandmother, a speech/language therapist and a citizen. They find her immersed in activities from walking in a rose garden or shopping for shoes to conversing with God.

Hoboken Historical Museum presents Memory Gardens – A Celebration of Allen Ginsberg on Sunday

(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- The Hoboken Historical Museum and Poet-in-Residence Danny Shot will host Memory Gardens – A Celebration of Allen Ginsberg on Sunday, March 3 at the Hoboken Historical Museum. The event is free and will also be livestreamed on the Hoboken Historical Museum's YouTube channel and Facebook page. The event begins at 4:00pm.

Bordentown Poetry Project Returns March 3rd

(BORDENTOWN, NJ) -- The Bordentown FP Poetry Project returns on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Old City Hall, in Bordentown. Now in its third year, the poetry project honors Frances "Fanny" Parnell (FP), the 19th century Irish poet and nationalist who died at her ancestral home in Bordentown in 1882. The event begins at 2:00pm. Admission is free, and a limited open reading will follow the presentation.

Dodge Foundation Announces Major Expansion of Dodge Poetry Throughout Newark

(NEWARK, NJ) -- On January 24, 2024, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation (Dodge Foundation), New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced plans for 2024 Dodge Poetry initiative – a new collaboration that celebrates poetry as a catalyst for communities to advance social change.

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton Makes, a Princeton-based artist cooperative, and Ragged Sky Press, a local publisher focused on poetry, will host a Second Sunday Poetry Reading on Sunday, January 14 at 4:00pm. The readings will take place at the Princeton Makes store in the Princeton Shopping Center. The January reading will feature Faleeha Hassan and Keith O'Shaughnessy. Their readings will be followed by an open mic available to up to 10 audience members who would like to read their original poetry.
