(West Orange, NJ) -- On July 1st, Todd Schmidt, Managing Director of Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ, began his appointment as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance, the service organization for the state's professional theatres. Also on that date, Michael Hurst, Managing Director of Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ, began his three-year term on the Board.

(MAPLEWOOD, NJ) -- The Theater Project is no stranger to hot potato topics, having presented productions and readings of plays tackling marriage and income inequality, not to mention war and peace. And it frequently previews scripts under consideration for its main stage productions in a series of script-in-hand performances and discussions called OPENING NIGHTS IN THE AFTERNOONS, at the Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker Street, at 2 PM, Saturday, September 6. Admission is free.

A pair of exhibits exploring the past and future of Asbury Park are currently on view in local galleries. The first, "Promised Land," is a collection of works presented by Transformer, a Washington DC-based non-profit that supports emerging visual artists. Curated by Transformer's executive and artistic director Victoria Reis, the exhibit features works that seek to connect Asbury Park's decline and struggle for renewal to similar national issues.
