Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center presents Fantasy Faire On June 13-14

(MILLVILLE, NJ) -- Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center presents Fantasy Faire, a family-friendly festival of medieval folklore & fun, on Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14 from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Watch as talented performers bring the “Kingdom of Wheaton” to life by enacting a series of interconnected shows throughout the day. Interact with strolling costumed characters, portraying historical and mythical figures of all ages! 

Everyone is welcome to come dressed in their favorite fantasy garbs to enjoy a variety of live performances including storytellers, dancing, and drumming, as well as sword demonstrations, retail vendors, pirate games, scavenger hunts, and archery games.

Four stages will host live performances from 10:30am till 4:00pm. Presented in partnership with Mystic Realms, Ltd, the event is included with general admission to WheatonArts: $12 adult, $11 senior, $7 student, children 5 & under are free.

Meet the Pirates from Treasure Island as they run a rickety set of Pirate Games where everyone is a winner. Collect coins and turn them in for pirate prizes. (Fee)

At the Court of Miracles, children can meet Esmeralda and other characters from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and enjoy dancing and drumming techniques by individual and troupe performers. Performances at quarter past and quarter of the hour.

Storybook characters will teach your children to sing along to many well-known children’s songs.

Join the “Kingdom of Wheaton Scavenger Hunt” and get signatures from our friendliest characters! Available at the Front Gate. Collect a Pirate Coin once you’ve completed the hunt!

Merlin the Magnificent Wizard - Observe and learn orb manipulation! Find Merlin as he travels the Kingdom of Wheaton, teaching and displaying the magic of contact juggling.

Spring Pole Raising and Dance 1:30pm (children participate in the dance)

Come and join the traditional dance at 1:30pm. We ask parents to encourage younger children by holding the ribbons and dancing with them in this joyous celebration!

Phoenix Swords Performances 12:30pm & 3:30pm - Watch these renowned performers from Phoenix Swords give authentic demonstrations of western martial arts.  Visitors may take introductory sword lessons ($5.00) through the day.

Society for Creative Anachronisms 11:00am to 4:00pm - The members of the Society For Creative Anachronism will be performing throughout the day.

Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia 11:00am to 4:00pm - Watch as members from Markland re-enact medieval life by constructing and using reproductions of the period’s accouterments.

 

Create Fused Glass Medallions in the Education Studio - Pre-register to create a wearable Fused Glass Medallion to boost your magical abilities. Available for ages 5 & up at an event discount of $10 per person. Call to register at 856.825.6800 ext. 152. Walk-ins welcomed if seats are available.

FREE Family Art Activities, 11:00am to 4:00pm 

Create a fire-breathing dragon puppet! - Adorn your dragon with scales and sequins to make him/her uniquely yours. Once he/she is complete take him for a test flight through the Kingdom of Wheaton. Suggested Ages: 5 and above with parental assistance. Estimated Time: 30 minutes.

Decorate your own personal Shield! - Be ready for a mythical battle with your own hand made shield! Use a variety of materials – duct tape, glass gems, paper plates, markers, and more to design and create a shield that represents you and any character you may play. Suggested Ages: 5 and above with parental assistance. Estimated Time: 15 minutes.

Tournament Field Performances

At this year’s Tournament of Prosperity, good King William and sweet Queen Grace are faced with their greatest challenge yet. Warlike King Leon, of the neighboring Kingdom of Waterford, has married Queen Cordelia and together they intend to conquer the Kingdom of Wheaton. Will Wheaton’s champions be able to avert disaster?

This year’s champions will include: Porthos of the Three Musketeers, Julie D’Aubgny the famous 17th-century swordswoman & opera singer, Davy Jones the infamous Pirate scoundrel, Ursula the Sea Witch, Mordred & the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian Legends, And a Djinn from Aladdin.

The Royal Scepter: Glass Blowing Demonstration!

Visit the Glass Studio for the 1:30pm demo and watch as the WheatonArts Royal Glassblowers create a glass scepter, complete with a magical glass orb! At the end of the show, one prospective King or Queen from the audience will be picked to take home their very own glass scepter! Audience members will be asked to fill out a door prize slip upon entry into the Glass Studio. Must be present to win. One entry will be chosen per day.
