The Drama of History Plays Out This Spring At Hopewell Theater

originally published: 02/13/2020

The Drama of History Plays Out This Spring At Hopewell Theater(HOPEWELL, NJ) -- This spring, Hopewell Theater's theatrical performances center the voices and stories of historical women, including Anne Frank, Dr. Maria Montessori, Dr. Mary Walker, and nine famous women from the Titantic. Comedy fans won't be disappointed by Hopewell Theater's comedy line up, featuring comics Eddie Brill, Frank Vignola, Mike Egan, Anita Wise, and more! Plus, mentalist The Amazing Kreskin and West End star Jeremiah James perform and a new open stage series, Your Stage at Any Stage, hosted by Michelle Klein of The Peasant Grill, kicks off in March.

On March 7, the musical Born To Learn: The Montessori Story explores Dr. Maria Montessori's inspiring life and work on the 150th anniversary of her birth. Originally commissioned in 2019 for the 50th anniversary of Princeton Montessori School, the show was written and directed by Emmy® winning children's composer and performer Alex Mitnick.

As timely today as when it was originally written, a staged reading of The Diary of Anne Frank will take place on March 11 and 12. Directed by Stephen Stahl (Lady Day), Wendy Kesselman’s adaptation of the original, Pulitzer Prize award-winning script by Goodrich and Hackett draws from previously unpublished parts of Anne Frank’s real-life diary, allowing the audience to experience Anne in a way that breathes life into this passionate, complex young woman.

Independence: The True Story of Dr. Mary Walker, a one woman play featuring Kathie Barnes and written/directed by Lloyd J. Schwartz, tells the story of American abolitionist, prohibitionist, prisoner of war and surgeon Dr. Mary Walker on March 28. Then on May 23Unsinkable Women: Songs and Stories of the Titanic by Deborah Jean Templin brings to life nine famous women from the Titanic, based on actual diaries, letters and interviews.

Don’t miss the musical retrospective and celebration of love in all its forms from West End Star Jeremiah James, who makes his Hopewell Theater debut on April 10 in Jeremiah James: Choose Love. James’ cabaret-like show crosses musical genres from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "If I Loved You" and Bert Kaempfert’s "L-O-V-E", to Barry Manilow's dynamically thrilling "Even Now" and Burt Bacharach's upbeat grabber "There's Always Something There to Remind Me", to name a few. Then, with a showman’s flair, a comedian’s wit, and the capacities of a bona fide mentalist - or thought reader - The Amazing Kreskin has for six decades dramatized the unique facets of the human mind. He brings his talents to Hopewell Theater on April 24
