(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The annual “Artist in Residence” series is a longstanding Rutgers tradition. This program has brought numerous outstanding musicians to conduct and perform with the university bands in their final concerts of the academic year. This year, the artists will come from within: Concerts running April 25 to 27, 2018, will feature one faculty member from each of the brass, woodwind, and percussion areas.
On Wednesday, April 25, Aaron VanderWeele will join the Rutgers University Symphony Band (conducted by Joe Busuito) in a performance of David Gillingham’s solo for euphonium entitled Vintage.
On Thursday, April 26, Kaoru Hinata will perform a setting of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending for flute and wind band with the Rutgers University Symphonic Winds (conducted by Todd Nichols).
The series will conclude on Friday, April 27, with Joseph Tompkins performing Jeff Tyzik’s solo for jazz drum set titled RIFFS with the Rutgers University Wind Ensemble(conducted by Darryl Bott).
Each concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Nicholas Music Center, 85 George Street at Route 18, part of the Mason Gross Performing Arts Center on Douglass Campus. Tickets are $15 for the public, $10 for seniors, Rutgers alumni, and employees, and $5 for students. Fees may apply.
