(STONE HARBOR, NJ) -- Ocean Galleries recently hosted the world renowned, neo-pop artist, Romero Britto, for his first appearance in southern New Jersey. The iconic artist brought with him an impressive collection of artwork, that included nearly 100 pieces of Britto’s colorful and playful original paintings, mixed media on canvas, and various sculptures.
Britto is well known for his worldwide charitable endeavors supporting such important organizations as the Elton’s John’s Aids Foundation and The Prince’s Trust (founded by Prince Charles). While in New Jersey, Britto supported The Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children in Avalon, NJ, by donating a magnificent piece of artwork which was custom-framed by Ocean Galleries. The donated artwork will be part of the Live Auction at the organization’s “Barefoot Ball” fundraising event taking place September 9, 2017 at the Windrift Hotel (Avalon, NJ).
Brazilian-born and Miami-made, Romero Britto is a self-taught artist who started painting on scraps of cardboard or any materials he could find at an early age. He went on to be inspired by Masters such as Matisse and Picasso, and combined influences of cubism with pop to create his vibrant, iconic style. Today, his art is known worldwide and has leant itself to collaborations with global brands such as Audi, Bentley, Coca‐Cola, Walt Disney, Evian, Hublot, and Mattel.
Ocean Galleries worked for several years trying to bring the famed artist and his magnificent artwork to the community. The gallery was thrilled to host Romero Britto for his first showing in southern New Jersey the first weekend of August. Romero is pictured in front of the Stone Harbor gallery with owner Kim Miller.
Romero Britto’s work evokes happiness and hope using a visual language all its own, reflecting his optimistic view of the world around him. In fact, it is hard to look at his playful themes and hard‐edged compositions without smiling.
For such a renowned artist, Romero Britto is very warm and humble, and was happy to chat with gallery guests throughout the weekend. The artist is pictured having fun with Jerry MacFarland and his granddaughter, Alicia, from Upper Township, NJ.
