(EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Playhouse 22 kicks off its 61st season with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest from September 13 - 29 Directed by Gerry Appel, the play is a stage adaptation of the Ken Kesey novel about a group of individuals with various mental illnesses in an Oregon psychiatric facility.
The novel was adapted into a 1963 play, starring Kirk Douglas as McMurphy and Gene Wilder as Billy Bibbit. A film adaptation, starring Jack Nicholson as McMurphy and Louise Fletcher as Nurse Ratched was released in 1975. The film won five Academy Awards.
Playhouse 22's production is for mature audiences because of adult language and themes that may not be appropriate for children.
The show runs September 13 - 29 with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm; and Sunday matinees at 3:00pm. There is no performance on Sunday, September 22; but there will be two performances on the 21st at 3:00pm and 8:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at Playhouse22.org, calling and leaving a message at (732) 254-3939, or at the door starting an hour before the performance. Prices are $22 for adults and $20 seniors and students.
