(LINCROFT, NJ) -- Pegasus Theater NJ, the sister company of Pegasus Production Company at Christian Brothers Academy, presents Terrence McNally's It's Only a Play at the historic Henderson Theater on the CBA campus on June 30 and July 1-2. As part of an initiative led by Mr. Marcos Orozco, chairman of the science department at CBA and director of Pegasus Theater, It's Only a Play continues the tradition of promoting the theatrical arts year-round at CBA by being the second annual show managed and performed entirely by alumni of CBA.
It's Only a Play, revived on Broadway in 2014, revolves around the offstage drama that accompanies the premiere of The Golden Egg, a new play that brings egotistical actors, playwrights, and directors together for a night that exemplifies the saying "there's no business like show business." Dramatists Play Service, Inc. writes, "The wealthy producer Julia Budder is throwing a lavish party in her lavish Manhattan townhouse. Downstairs the celebrities are pouring in, but the real action is upstairs in the bedroom, where a group of insiders have staked themselves out to await the reviews, ... [creating] a prime recipe for the narcissism, ambition, childishness, and just plain irrationality that infuse the theatre—and for comedy. But don’t worry: This play is sure to be the hit they have all been hoping for."
It's Only a Play opened to rave reviews on and off Broadway, with the New York Times writing that "This show is without a doubt hilariously, sidesplittingly funny…These are among the funniest lines to roll off a stage in years…IT’S ONLY A PLAY deserves only a rave." The work of a powerhouse cast and crew of CBA alumni on this hilarious production is not to be missed.
It's Only a Play opens on Friday, June 30 at 7 pm in the Henderson Theater and plays performances on Saturday, July 1 at 7 pm and Sunday, July 2 at 2 pm.
Henderson Theater is located at the back of the main building of Christian Brothers Academy on 850 Newman Springs Road in Lincroft, NJ. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for seniors. For ticket reservations or questions, email pegasustheaternj@gmail.com or call 732-907-7342.
