(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Showcasing new international films, American independent features, animation, experimental and short subjects, and cutting-edge documentaries, the New Jersey Film Festival Fall 2016 will feature 35 film screenings. The Festival will run on select Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday evenings between September 17 and October 28, 2016.
Twenty-two films will have their New Jersey or Area Premiere screenings as part of the New Jersey Film Festival Fall 2016. Some of these include: Nilay Dave’s engrossing and expertly acted dramatic film Gandhiji My Mentor; Seymon Pinkhasov’s Out of the Box -- an insightful documentary about Gregory Perkel; Marcie Begleiter’s brilliant documentary Eva Hesse -- one of America’s foremost postwar artists; Randall Okita’s superb The Lockpicker -- a feature film about an enigmatic teenager; Stephen Elliot’s autobiographical feature After Adderall; Jeff Schlags’s A Wig and a Prayer - The Peaches Christ Story takes us into the world of drag queen extraordinaire Peaches Christ; Sevé Schelenz’s Peelers -- a grindhouse film, a gore film, a twist on the zombie genre, and a very dark comedy; Emilia Zielonka’s Tenderness -- an intense psychological drama about a teenage couple; Tamara and Thomas Balsamides’s A Ticking Time Bomb -- a timely and informative documentary on Lyme Disease; Ludovico Di Martino’s Il Ultimo Nostro (Our Last) -- a new feature comedy film from Italy; Marinah Janello’s beautiful experimental film You’re Just Projecting; Amy Russo’s Racing The Sunrise -- a touching short film based on true events; Cara Consilvio’s excellent short film CIT; Matt Riddle’s hysterical short Five Minutes of Fun; Hannah Leder’s rogue Auto-Cowrecked; and many others.
There are over fifteen confirmed special guest appearances by film directors, artists, actors, and scholars to the New Jersey Film Festival Fall 2016. All visiting directors will introduce their work and do a Question and Answer session after the screenings.
There will be free food served at the New Jersey Film Festival Fall 2016 prior to all the screenings courtesy of Jimmy John's of New Brunswick. There will also be two Free Film Screenings on October 14 and 28. The festival offers free Parking in University lots near the screening space.
The Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center, in association with the Rutgers University Program In Cinema Studies, Jungle Software, Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick City Market, and Jimmy John’s, is proud to present the 35th Bi-annual New Jersey Film Festival Fall 2016.
All the competition films selected were screened by a panel of judges including media professionals, journalists, students, and academics. These judges selected the 22 finalists which will be publicly screened at our Festival. These finalists were selected from over 388 works submitted by filmmakers from around the world. In addition, the judges chose the Prize Winners in conjunction with the Festival Director. Prize winners will be announced after the screenings on Friday, October 7.
