(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Art House Productions will move in mid-July to a new home at 300 Coles Street in Jersey City. Part of the performing and visual arts organization’s long-term strategic plan, the new space allows Art House to expand its programs, broaden its artistic reach and strengthen its roots in the community after a 30-month temporary residence near Journal Square.
The new, accessible facility will comprise a 99-seat flexible black box theater, a fine arts gallery curated by Jersey City’s own Curious Matter, rentable studio space and offices for Art House staff. Thanks to generous support from Sanford “Sandy” Weiss and Louis Mont of the Manhattan Building Company, Art House’s new home will be located in the ground floor of Cast Iron Lofts, in “Soho West,” one of Jersey City’s fastest-growing neighborhoods and one that is attracting diverse residents, artists and non-artist patrons alike.
“Having finalized plans for our new home in Jersey City, the future of Art House has never been stronger,” said Meredith Burns, executive director of Art House. “In the last year, Art House has expanded its Board and formed numerous committees that are now working closely together to tailor high-quality visual and performing arts programming for the community’s needs, increase fund raising and expand accessibility to Art House’s rich and vibrant community of artists and patrons.”
Founded shortly after September 11, Art House began as an informal gathering of poets, musicians and other Jersey City residents who used art and dialogue to help heal a devastated community. Through the dedication and support of hundreds of artists and many more volunteers, it has grown into a vibrant organization focused on cultivating artists in Jersey City, showcasing visual and performing arts, creating greater understanding and enriching the lives of people in Jersey City and the region.
Through accessible, multi-disciplinary initiatives, Art House Productions produces high-quality visual and performing arts programs, provides arts-education programs for life-long learning, and celebrates the power of the arts to illuminate our common humanity. Since its inception in 2001, Art House has influenced the advancement of the arts community and acted as a pioneering force for the arts in Jersey City. In 2007, Art House was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and received a Key to the City for outstanding contributions to Jersey City. Until the new facility opens, Art House Productions maintains temporary offices at 201 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, New Jersey.
