(TEANECK, NJ) -- Author, illustrator, hip-pop artist, and educator Toney Jackson hosts the Puffin Summer Poetry Slam on Wednesday, August 23th at 7:00pm at the Puffin Cultural Forum. Poets and wordsmiths of all ages, styles, and experiences are welcome to compete for the role of victor and a $75 cash prize; the runner-up will receive $25. In addition to the competition, the mic will be open as long as the poetry is flowing. Interested slammers must email to register.

Toney Jackson, a New Jersey native, is currently a teacher at Nellie K. Parker Elementary School located in Hackensack, NJ. Jackson began performing spoken word poetry at while studying at Rutgers University. He went on to win several poetry slams and was recognized by the Academy of American Poets. Author and illustrator of multiple children’s books, Toney Jackson also performs as a hip-pop artist under the name of Zach Lost. He has performed on the Vans Warped Tour, released two CDs, and was a winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Recently, Toney Jackson was featured in a nationally broadcast Microsoft Windows 10 commercial for his use of poetry, illustration, and technology in his classroom.
