Martha Redbone Roots Project (trio) on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 8:00pm. Martha Redbone is one of today’s most vital voices in American Roots music. A multi award-winning musician, the charismatic songstress is celebrated for her tasty gumbo of roots music embodying the folk and mountain blues sounds of her childhood in the Appalachian hills of Kentucky mixed with the eclectic grit of her teenage years in pre-gentrified Brooklyn. With the power of her gospel singing African-American father’s voice and the determined spirit of her Cherokee/Shawnee/Choctaw mother, Redbone broadens all boundaries of Americana.

Alongside her career as a recording artist and songwriter Martha Redbone has maintained a steady involvement with causes she believes in. Ms. Redbone is contracted by The Department of Indian Education- Louisiana, LaFourche Parish and teaches Southeastern Traditional Singing Workshop for the United Houma Nation’s Bayou Healers Cultural Enrichment Camp program. Redbone is a 2015/16 Fellow of the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation.

The Art of Living Well: Pecha Kucha Night: “Hopewell for the Holidays” on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 7:30pm. Calling all storytellers! Pecha Kucha Nights are informal and fun gatherings where creative people get together and share their ideas, works, thoughts, holiday snaps -- just about anything, really -- in the Pecha Kucha format. PechaKucha is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and you talk along to the images. It was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Good Pecha Kucha presentations are the ones that uncover the unexpected -- unexpected talent, unexpected ideas. Some PechaKuchas tell great stories about a project or a trip. Some are incredibly personal, some are incredibly funny, but all are very different, and they turn each Pecha Kucha Night into “a box of chocolates.”  Interested in being a storyteller? Paul Muldoon and Rogue Oliphant: An Evening of Poetry and Song on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 8:00pm. Rogue Oliphant is a loose affiliation of musicians and composers who work on songs and spoken word pieces written by the Pulitzer Prize winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon. Among those who have been most closely associated with Rogue Oliphant are Chris Harford on guitar (Three Colors, Band of Changes), David Mansfield (Bob Dylan’s band Rolling Thunder Review, The Alpha Band, award-winning film and television composer), Cait O’Riordan on bass guitar (The Pogues), Warren Zanes (The Del Fuegos), Ray Kubian on drums (Solar Motel Band, Dean Ween Group). The band’s first CD, I Gave the Pope a Rhino was recorded at Room 17, Brooklyn, in June 2016.

Muldoon holds the Howard G.B. Clark chair in Humanities at Princeton University. He's been a writer for the New Yorker since 2007. Interviewed for On Being, on the release of a collection of lyrics for Rogue Oliphant, Muldoon stated “poetry comes in all sorts of forms, all kinds of forms, all shapes, all manner of ways. And I think if we take into account all the manifestations of poetry in the world — including some in prose fiction, by the way, and nonfiction — with the ways in which it goes back to some of its earliest sources, the riddle, the prayer, the charm, the incantation, which, of course, were all forms of poetry in some societies, and continue to be, I think, in many. If one accepts, in one’s expansiveness, rock ‘n’ roll, and rap, and country music.”

NRBQ on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 8:00pm.  Often called "the world's greatest bar band," NRBQ (short for the New Rhythm and Blues Quintet) are that rare group that's eclectic, stylistically innovative, and creatively ambitious while also sounding thoroughly unpretentious and accessible. At its best, NRBQ's music casually mixes up barrelhouse R&B, British Invasion pop, fourth-gear rockabilly, exploratory free jazz, and dozens of other flavors while giving it all a stomp-down rhythm that makes fans want to dance and expressing a sense of joy and easy good humor that comes straight from the heart. Over the course of a career that's lasted more than 40 years, the band has barely flirted with mainstream success, but has still earned a sizable, passionate cult of fans that includes Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, Ira Kaplan, John Sebastian, and Dave Edmunds.

Susan Werner on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 8:00pm. Known for her engaging and energetic live show, Susan Werner continues her reign as one of the most bold and creative forces on the acoustic music scene today. Dubbed by NPR as the “Empress of the Unexpected”, Werner composes skillful songs that effortlessly slide between folk, rock, pop, gospel, blues, and Americana, all delivered with sassy wit and classic Midwestern charm.

Til Death Do Us Part... You First - One Man Show with Peter Fogel on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 8:00pm. The hilarious, multi-media one man show, TIL DEATH DO US PART...YOU FIRST! written by and starring Peter J. Fogel and directed by Matt Silva, comes to Hopewell Theater on Saturday, January 4, 2020. TIL DEATH DO US PART...YOU FIRST! is Fogel’s 90 minute high-energy autobiographical tale of a comedian’s Quixote Quest to finding “The One”. Fogel holds nothing back and minds the humor in all his failed romances and brings the audience along on an unforgettable journey of the battle of the sexes. TIL DEATH DO US PART...YOU FIRST spins a heartwarming hilarious yarn that the Drama Logue has called a combination of Dicken’s Christmas Carol meets Defending The Caveman! Young or old, divorced or married if you’ve even been single (and that’s everyone) and want to experience (again) the feeling of finding that Special Person who can transform your life– then you’ll want to fasten your seat belt for 90 minutes of Non-Stop laughs.

Hopewell Theater's Winter Lineup to Include Live Stage Performances, Award-Winning Comedy, and Sounds of Rock, Soul, Roots & Folk

Jay Ungar and Molly Mason on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 8:00pm. He was a Bronx kid. She grew up in Washington State. He was raised on pop music of the 1940s and ’50s. She had a fondness for traditional fiddle music and ’30s and ’40s popular tunes. Since joining forces—both artistically and romantically (the two would marry in 1991)—Jay Ungar and Molly Mason have become one of the most celebrated duos on the American acoustic music scene. Jay’s fiddling is brimming with playfulness, drama, soulfulness and technical verve, as he explores the many musical styles and idioms that he has internalized and made his own. Molly’s total mastery and inventiveness on piano and guitar is always spot-on, as she supports the tunes and follows the flow of the melody. Her rich and expressive vocals along with the resonant strains of Jay’s violin, reveal the deep emotions that flow in the duos veins.

Millions were entranced by the music they did for Ken Burns’ PBS documentary The Civil War. Their performance of the series’ signature tune, Jay’s haunting composition, Ashokan Farewell, earned the couple international acclaim. The soundtrack won a Grammy and Ashokan Farewell was nominated for an Emmy.

Peter Mulvey on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 8:00pm. Peter Mulvey has been a folk singer-songwriter, road-dog, raconteur and almost-poet since before he can remember. Raised working-class Catholic on the Northwest side of Milwaukee, he took a semester in Ireland, and immediately began cutting classes to busk on Grafton Street in Dublin and hitchhike through the country, finding whatever gigs he could. Back stateside, he spent a couple years gigging in the Midwest before lighting out for Boston, where he returned to busking (this time in the subway) and coffeehouses. Small shows led to larger shows, which eventually led to regional and then national and international touring. The wheels have not stopped since.

Eighteen records, one illustrated book, thousands of live performances, a TEDx talk, a decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp, opening for luminaries such as Ani DiFranco, Emmylou Harris, and Chuck Prophet, appearances on NPR, an annual autumn tour by bicycle, emceeing festivals, hosting his own boutique festival (the Lamplighter Sessions, in Boston and Wisconsin)… Mulvey never stops. He has built his life’s work on collaboration and on an instinct for the eclectic and the vital. He folds everything he encounters into his work: poetry, social justice, scientific literacy, and a deeply abiding humanism are all on plain display in his art.

Hopewell Theater's Winter Lineup to Include Live Stage Performances, Award-Winning Comedy, and Sounds of Rock, Soul, Roots & FolkComedy Date Night with Jackie Byrne and Joe Fernandes on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 8:00pm. Jackie Byrne is a stand-up comic, actor and host who is known for being super fun, sassy and quick witted! She's "the girl next door" with an expressive face and a Jersey attitude. Jackie brings her bubbly and spontaneous energy to audiences all over the country. She just recently filmed #thatmovieaboutnjcomics directed by the brilliant comic, Bonnie McFarlane and can be seen as "Beth" in the feature film, Seclusion. She has studied and performed improv and sketch comedy at The Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City and her writing and acting have been featured in sketches on FunnyorDie.com and Buzzfeed. Jackie lives in the Dirty Jerz with her mensch of a husband while she continues to pay off her B.F.A. in Theater. She holds Reverend status from The Universal Life Church (a.k.a she can marry you) and a grudge for never being cast as "Annie" at any point in her childhood.

Also hailing from NJ is comic, podcaster, and actor Joe Fernandes. When he is not escaping reality by hanging with his Welsh corgi on hiking trails, he can be found in comedy clubs making fun of his unrelenting confusion with life. Joe’s open book approach to comedy has an honest point of view that any audience can relate to.

Jim's Big Ego on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 8:00pm. Perform a Google search for "the Greatest Band in the History of Recorded Music" and you will get only one result: Jim's Big Ego. Hailing from the quaint New England village of Boston, Massachusetts, Jim's Big Ego has carved a unique place in the music world by rocking harder, fresher, louder, sweeter and better than everyone else. Jim's Big Ego's secret to awesomeness is singer, songwriter, and all around super-genius, Jim Infantino. Armed with the innate ability to create songs that are more brilliant than all others in history, Infantino gives the band the gift of greatness.

While the debate still rages over whether the band's formation was a matter of divine providence or historical inevitability, one fact remains clear: if the world ended today, Jim's Big Ego would die happy knowing that they were more talented than Oasis, more popular than Terence Trent D'Arby and richer than MC Hammer.

Davina and the Vagabonds on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 7:30pm. With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits, the band draws from the last 100 years of American music, and is converting audiences one show at a time. So much more than just a blues act, DATV’s shows are filled with New Orleans charm, Memphis soul swagger, dark theatrical moments that evoke Kurt Weill, and tender gospel passages. Davina’s voice and stage presence defy category in a different way. Davina has been compared to Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday and Betty Boop, but comparisons don’t suffice. Sowers is a true original.

An Evening With Eagles Songwriter Jack Tempchin on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 8:00pm. You may have seen Jack Tempchin’s featured interview in the ‘History of the Eagles’ documentary. Or you may have heard his name referenced from the stage on the final ‘History of the Eagles’ World Tour by the late great Glenn Frey…

2019 Songwriters Hall Of Fame Inductee Jack Tempchin is known for penning some of the most durable tunes in American music for a variety of artists that includes the Eagles, George Jones, Glenn Frey, Randy Meisner, Glen Campbell, Emmylou Harris, Trisha Yearwood and many others. Progressively Funny: John Fugelsang and Friends on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 8:00pm. He's been murdered on CSI, interviewed 2 Beatles on separate continents in the same week, and famously once got Mitt Romney's advisor to call Governor Romney an 'etch a sketch' on CNN. Actor, comedian & broadcaster John Fugelsang hosts 'Tell Me Everything" weekdays on SiriusXM Insight #121. He recently performed in 'The Bill of Rights Concert" alongside Lewis Black & Dick Gregory which aired on AXS. He's also appeared at Montreal’s ‘Just for Laughs’ Festival, HBO’s U.S Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, hosted America's Funniest Home Videos for ABC and Bill Maher called him ‘one of my favorite comedians’.

Tameca Jones on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 8:00pm. When Austin, TX native Tameca Jones opens her mouth and sings, jaws hit ground. Her honeyed and powerful vocals have been captivating her hometown for a little over ten years. She made a name for herself as the “Queen of Austin Soul,” blowing minds with her tasteful and vibrant interpretations of a diverse list of artists that include Tina Turner, Nirvana, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, and more. The Austin Chronicle called her interpretations “sonic pretzels” that “juxtapose(s) crunchy jaggedness with her infectious, honeyed voice.”

Guitar deity and fellow Austinite Gary Clark Jr., who faithfully attended Tameca’s shows whenever he was in town, asked her to sing on the song “Wings” for his latest album, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim. Rolling Stone called the song a “slinky duet,” while Andy Langer for Esquire Magazine called the song one of the best songs in the month of September and noted that “the tweaky processing of Austin soul starlet Tameca Jones’ voice adds an early-Parliament-like trippiness.”

Hopewell Theater offers a range of unique cultural experiences, from independent film and live music to guest speakers, artists and performances. Patrons can dine-in on small plates from local restaurants or just come for the show. Film buffs will particularly enjoy a state-of-the-art movie theater in Hopewell, NJ with a dine-in menu. A landing spot, a launch pad, and an incubator, Hopewell Theater is also a place where artists can play, practice, perform or show their passion project on the big screen. The theater is available to rent, at both hourly and day-rates.
