Holmdel Theatre Company Presents To Kill A Mockingbird
(HOLMDEL, NJ) -- The Holmdel Theatre Company located at The Duncan Smith Theatre in Holmdel, NJ announces their  Summer Production, “To Kill A Mockingbird” from July 22 through August 6, 2016.  A cast of over 20 actors has been assembled to portray a variety of characters representing members of a small Southern town. The play is adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel from Harper Lee’s controversial Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name.

The play, set in a small town in Alabama during the Great  Depression, deals with racial and social injustice. It highlights the effects on the townspeople resulting from the trial of a young black man accused of raping a white girl. The young man is defended by Atticus Finch, to be portrayed by James Morgan. Finch is a man of truth and high moral convictions. He has the monumental task of convincing the townspeople, who are guided more by ignorance than justice, that the young man is innocent.  Finch must also find a way to help his own children, Scout and Jem, to be portrayed by Ceci Lihn and Will Ehren, respectively, understand the implications of the trial. Finch’s socio-economic status and the children’s upbringing has insulated them from the racial division and underpinnings of the town.  The results of the trial, forces them to make sense of truth and the social conventions of the day. Their loss of innocence makes them symbolic “mockingbirds”.

To Kill A Mockingbird’s, Director, Tom Fascatore states, “I see ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird’ as a Memory Play viewed through the eyes of children whose innocence is taken away from them by the attitudes and events that take place in their small Southern town.” He continues, “We’ve assembled an outstanding cast and this production promises to be both entertaining and thought provoking.  Audiences will find many of the ideas in the play to hold relevance in the present day”.

To Kill a Mockingbird show dates are July 22 through August 6, 2016 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm with Sunday matinees at 3:00 pm.

The Holmdel Theatre Company at the Duncan Smith Theatre is a non-profit semi-professional theatre company located at 36 Crawfords Corner Road Holmdel, NJ 07733. For tickets and further information call: 732-946-0427.
